Sacramento has 'riddim': The 3rd annual One Love One Heart reggae festival

Reggae enthusiasts and artists hailing from the Northern California region and afar gathered together on the dusty banks of the Sacramento River at the Rio Ramaza Marina, RV and event park to celebrate the third annual Sacramento One Love One Heart reggae festival. Located at 10000 Garden Highway, notably in the same spot as this past August's first annual Sacramento Hempfest, which promoted cannabis consumption and awareness (something which has been synonymous with reggae music and Rastafari culture), it was the perfect secluded setting for such a festival. Local artist David Garibaldi motivates at arts community meeting

Sacramento-raised painter David Garibaldi delivered a poignant speech at Wednesday's "For Art's Sake" meeting. The 26-year-old thanked Mayor Kevin Johnson and the city for its support and guidance when he was growing up in Sacramento. While Garibaldi was a high school student interested in the arts, the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission recognized his potential and sent him to California State Summer School for the Arts on a full scholarship, he said. Garibaldi credited this and his high school art program with helping him redirect a creative fire that led him to graffiti the streets of Sacramento, inspiring him instead to become a performance artist. Review: John Legend at Raley Field

A family atmosphere pervaded Raley Field Friday night as neo-soul artists Vaughn Anthony, India Arie and John Legend performed to a crowd of thousands. The diverse audience of fans who attended the show varied in age; much of the audience was made up of young and old couples and families. Around 7 p.m. Anthony, Legend's younger brother, opened the show with a 20-minute set. As people were still finding their seats, he brought a self-proclaimed "old-school R&B" sound to the Sacramento audience, but he essentially sounded like a poppier version of his older brother.
