After a slightly flawed but excellent nonetheless One Scary Nite 2, expectations were high for the third annual installment of the "Deon Taylor Enterprises presents: One Scary Nite" Halloween party, which went down at the California Auto Museum Thursday night. Familiar attractions returning this year included "Mad Scientist" Jack Sparx with his Tesla coil, huge propane fireballs and deranged laugh, stilt walkers, fire dancers, go-go dancers and many bloody, gory "staff monsters" and zombies who shuffled around the venue with a vacant look in their eyes, grunting at passing partygoers. Boxing returned to Sacramento Saturday night with Battle of the Badges VII, an annual charity boxing event featuring correctional officers, police officers and firefighters from the Northern California area. Fifteen bouts of three two-minute rounds took place in front of an estimated 2,000-3,000 boxing fans at Memorial Auditorium, benefiting such charities as the Firefighters Burn Institute, Sac Fallen Officers Resource Fund, The Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project and Sacramento SPCA. Some agencies represented in the matches included the Sacramento and Vallejo fire departments; the Sacramento, Davis and Woodland police departments; the California Highway Patrol and California State Prison,
Voyage Home Loans strives to make a difference in its community through various charitable endeavors each month and in July, their focus is to help save lives. On Thursday, July 8, Voyage will be hosting a blood drive with BloodSource, a northern and central California blood bank, at Voyage’s headquarters in Sacramento. Voyage is also participating in “Pint for a Pint”, a program in which all donors will receive a coupon for a free pint of Baskin-Robbin’s ice cream. According to BloodSource, one pint of blood can save three lives. So far, about 40 people from both Voyage and local businesses will be donating on Thursday, which equates to 120 lives saved. Thursday, Nov. 5 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Blood Source Sacramento will be holding a blood drive for an expected 50 participants. Their "mobile blood van" will be parked near the fish pond. No further events scheduled until Sunday, Nov. 8.
