K Street Mall projects closer to groundbreaking

Redevelopment projects for the 700 and 800 blocks of K Street cleared a final hurdle on their way to the Sacramento City Council when the city's Preservation Commission approved both Thursday night. The commission called a special meeting to consider the final major design components after both projects were approved by the Planning Commission last week. A City Council vote of approval, which will be set for sometime in June, would mean groundbreaking could finally begin on two key blocks of K Street Mall that have long been eyesores. The projects will add 337 mixed-income apartments in the downtown core, rehab the landmark Bel-Vue Apartments and restore all but one of the building façad

City Council Approves Historic Plaque Program

On Tuesday February 9 the Sacramento City Council authorized the use of the Sacramento city seal for use on plaques to be fabricated through the Historic Properties Plaque Program, a project of Sacramento Heritage, Inc.   Sacramento Heritage Inc. is a nonprofit organization incorporated by the city of Sacramento to promote and preserve Sacramento's architectural heritage. The Historic Properties Plaque Program allows owners of properties that are either listed Sacramento landmarks, or contributing buildings to Sacramento historic districts, to purchase bronze plaques for display on their properties. 8th and K hotel plan dropped

Developer Bob Leach withdrew his proposal Tuesday to build a hotel on K Street Mall after financing — including public bond financing from the city — fell through. The city of Sacramento's Redevelopment Agency now must go back to the drawing board by requesting other proposals for the property at 8th and K streets, as well as adjacent property in the 800 block of L Street. "He pulled the plug," Sacramento City Councilmember Kevin McCarty said following Tuesday's City Council meeting.
