Fashion and Philanthropy Join Forces During “Girls’ Night Out” Event

Wellspring Women’s Center announced today they are launching a new fundraiser to raise money to support the organization and its mission to provide community services to women and children. Wellspring’s first annual Girls’ Night Out event will be held on June 16, 2011 at Plaza Five Fifty Five at 555 Capitol Mall in Downtown Sacramento from 5:30pm to 8pm. Recycling Right Can Pay Off in Sacramento

The City of Sacramento Department of Utilities will launch the 2011 Recycling Incentive Awards, sponsored by AT&T Real Yellow Pages and the Sacramento Recycling and Transfer Station on May 2, 2011. Each week through June 27, the City will randomly select recycling containers in a selected Council District and check it for proper recycling. If the container holds only clean recyclables, the City will award owners of clean recycling bins with $100 and the chance to win an iPad2. “Recycling right is the right thing to do. Science center gets robotics lab

A robotics lab program for children is expected to be built for the Powerhouse Science Center by summer. AT&T, which will announce a $25,000 donation Tuesday, is joining Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Otto Construction and Sacramento City Councilmember Sandy Sheedy to create a portable lab that will be set up at the Discovery Museum. The program will be transferred to the new science center, which is expected to open in about three years. This is the first program for the center to be fully funded, said Beth Callahan, director of development and marketing for the Discovery Museum. "We are on track," she said. AT&T

The AT&T building located on 15th and J has recently become more aesthetically pleasing. As I passed the, usually quite drab, AT&T building that has no windows, I noticed that it now has artistic pictures that are pleasing to the eye. All the photographs are in black and white and surround the entire building. While examining the pictures, I spoke with an employee of AT&T who informed me that the photographs were all taken within the three-block radius. Most were taken right in front of the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. Not only is the AT&T building becoming more vibrant, but they too are community contributors.
