Trained by Arden Hills, Seven Local Swimmers are Going for the Gold!

Known for incredibly fast, exciting and suspense-filled competitions, a number of local swim athletes have their eye on competing in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Nebraska, in hopes of representing the United States at the upcoming London Olympic Games.    In fact, four local swimmers who have trained at Arden Hills are already qualified to attend the USA Swimming Olympic Trials and three others are headed soon to qualifying meets.  The community at large is encouraged to keep watch and cheer on a number of talented local swimmers, including: Randall Bal -- a graduate of Stanford University in 2003, Bal qualified for the Olympics trials cut a couple of years

Talented Local Athletes from Arden Hills to Compete in Swim Meets in Arizona & Washington

Led by Arden Hills USA Swim Team Head Coach & Director of Aquatics Brian Nabeta and his talented coaching staff, more than 50 young athletes training at Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa will travel to compete in two separate swim meets happening this week in Arizona and Washington. In fact, a group of 30 young athletes (ages 9-14) training at Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa will compete in the 2011 Holiday Swim Festival taking place in Chandler, Arizona, on December 1 through 4, 2011.   This annual competition is put on by the USA Swimming and the Desert Thunder Aquatics. Former King Matt Barnes to host charity golf tournament

Break out your plaid and visors for a day on the golf course with Sacramento native and current NBA player Matt Barnes. Barnes and other high-profile sports figures are in town for the second annual Athletes vs Cancer Foundation’s Celebrity Golf Invitational. The former Sacramento King began the foundation, according to his website, in 2009 after Barnes lost his mother Ann to cancer in 2007. Athletes vs Cancer spreads awareness and provides screening opportunities. “Athletes have a positive influence,” Barnes said. Game Plan Academy (GPA) students 'GoDoGood' & serve at Sacramento Food Bank

One of the keys to serving local communities effectively is supporting existing institutions that already provide valuable services. The Sacramento Food Bank is one such institution. This past Saturday, Game Plan Academy (GPA) students assembled alongside GPA mentors, Jesuit High School alumni, teachers, students, parents, and staff as part of a GoDoGood project.  The mission of GoDoGood is to capture people's energy to 'do good' and put these passions into action in local communities. Sacramento's GPA Provides Positive Role Models

Sacramento has produced a number of world class athletes - Dusty Baker, Bill Cartwright, Debbie Meyer, and of course Mayor Kevin Johnson to name a few. But what's to be said about young athletes who have talent, but not the means to be successful? A group of seven successful Sacramento athletes, including former NFL players Gio Carmazzi and Alex Van Dyke are now back in Sacramento to help steward underprivileged high school athletes to succeed not only in sports but also in life.
