Occupy Sacramento continues after 20 protesters arrested

Authorities said 20 protesters were arrested at about 12:45 a.m. Friday when they refused to leave Cesar Chavez Plaza, the site of the Occupy Sacramento demonstration. Both police and protesters described the arrests as peaceful. “They went without any problems or issues,” said Sgt. Andrew Pettit, spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department. “They were booked for failure to disperse after a lawful order.” Anthony Bondi, a spokesman for Occupy Sacramento, agreed. “It was completely violence-free,” he said Friday afternoon. “The protesters laid down and chose to be arrested.” Despite what some protesters said they think was an overbearing police presence, Pettit said units involved w

Suspect Arrested After Threat to Mayor

The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 43-year-old Fred Nelson for a probation violation after he threatened Mayor Kevin Johnson. On January, 26, 2011, at 8:36 a.m., the Mayor was attending a meeting at 10th and J Street when a subject approached him. The subject, later identified as Fred Nelson, told the Mayor that he would be out of office in four hours. The security detail took immediate action, because of the threat to the Mayor’s safety, by detaining Nelson. Detectives responded to assist with the investigation. A 44 year old Sacramento man robs a convenience store but gets dooped by technology Wednesday afternoon. Sacramento, California According to Sacramento Police Department spokesman, Conrad Vonschoech, 44 year-old Colon Carmelo is the suspect being held for the robbery of the Fast Stop Food Stores, at 5600 Wilkinson Dr. in South Sacramento Wednesday afternoon. He was booked into Sacramento County Jail at 7:32PM Wednesday evening for felony robbery. WEST SAC- West Sacramento police and Davis SWAT served warrants on several locations in West Sacramento related to recent gang activity occurring in the city including the fatal shooting at the Ortega's Night Club. Four survive dramatic crash

Smoke, flying debris and a rolled over vehicle is what Jerry Cook saw in front of him as he traveled south on Business 80. Four occupants are very fortunate to be alive today. At approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, their Buick Lacrosse slammed into the barriers at the interchange of West Business 80 and Highway 160. The vehicle smashed through all the sand filled barriers then flip over coming to rest on it's roof. Arrest made in chain of McKinley Park burglaries

An arrest has been made in connection with the thirteen burglarized homes in McKinley Park. The Sacramento Police Department arrested 38-year-old Kenneth Johnson on Jan. 10, 2009. Forensic evidence has linked Johnson to 3 of the 13 burglaries. The remaining 10 burglaries are still under investigation. The 13 burglaries occurred between July and December of 2008 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. Investigators speculate that Johnson entered the homes through unlocked doors or windows while residents were asleep.
