Co-hosts Liz Franco and Ashlee Gadd are bringing popular clothing exchange Stitch Swap to The Citizen Hotel Saturday. “Stitch Swap is an opportunity to meet new friends, rid your wardrobe of things you no longer wear, find new items for your closet, all while raising money and awareness for Women Escaping a Violent Environment," said Gadd, marketing and public relations manager for The Citizen Hotel. Participants bring $10 as well as any accessories, clothing or shoes they want to swap from 3 - 5 p.m. Saturday at the Citizen Hotel 926 J St. There is no limit to how much people can bring or how much they can take, Gadd said. Shayla Rivera: a breath of fresh comedy

Comedian Shayla Rivera entertained a packed house with her playful jokes and animated gestures during her performance at the Punchline Comedy Club Thursday night. The spectrum of her stories and jokes varied widely, from her Puerto Rican traditional mother to her experiences in the women’s bathroom. Rivera also joked about jobs she’s had in the past, from working on a cruise liner to her days as an aerospace engineer for NASA. She also turned her attention toward people in the audience, but Rivera was not afraid to make fun of herself throughout her set. Arden apartment fire claims a life

 Sacramento, CA- At 11:27 pm, Tuesday night, Metro Fire received multiple calls for an apartment fire at 2420 Arden Way, #52. After speaking with Christian Peebles (Metro Fire PIO) this morning , we learned that when fire units arrived, they found the bottom floor of the unit fully involved. The fire was contained to that unit, however 3 other units were smoke damaged, per Peebles. Metro Fire arrived in 5 min and quickly knocked the fire down in 10 minutes with 18 firefighters, saving the rest of the apartment complex. Per Peebles, there was one fatality. Four survive dramatic crash

Smoke, flying debris and a rolled over vehicle is what Jerry Cook saw in front of him as he traveled south on Business 80. Four occupants are very fortunate to be alive today. At approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, their Buick Lacrosse slammed into the barriers at the interchange of West Business 80 and Highway 160. The vehicle smashed through all the sand filled barriers then flip over coming to rest on it's roof. Jerry Cook was driving down 80 when all he saw in front of him was a cloud of smoke, flying debris and other cars dodging around the debris as the Buick came to rest. Condoms on display

There is a Valentine's Day display made of condoms inside the Armani Exchange store in the Arden Fair Mall that is causing quite a stir. With such amazing changes taking place in the Country today, I find it surprising that the sight of condoms is so offensive. When the streets were buzzing about this, curiosity led me straight to the Mall to see for myself. The display is actually really neat. One has to be fairly close to even realize that it is made out of contraceptives. Please tell me what you think of this display. Is it offensive?

Since its foundation in 1984, the Literacy Service of the Sacramento Public Library has offered one-on-one tutoring with English-speaking adults, helping them to improve the skills necessary to function in today's society. Let's face it—adults who have trouble with reading and writing face a daily struggle.
