With Susan G. Komen facing a landslide of criticism for withdrawal of funding to Planned Parenthood, one Sacramento non-profit, Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation continues to support women in a 10 county area of Northern California through their fund raising efforts. “For the last seven years, Albie Aware has served women possibly facing breast cancer by raising money to fill a need…a gap, if you will, in our health care system. Simply put, standard tests may not detect breast cancer and prescribing more thorough expensive diagnostic tests such as PETscans is not medical protocol, not covered by insurance, and too often cost prohibitive to many patients,” said Founder Doug Carson. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In Sacramento, the festivities kick off with Blues for Life at The Torch Club , a live music festival & pasta cook-off from 1pm to 7pm on October 2. Ten bands, 10 restaurants, and a five-year Sac town tradition, this event is the primary fundraiser for Albie Aware, a foundation that brings preventive care, support, and education for those with breast cancer or seeking assistance for early detection and treatment. “If treated early, cancer fatality can diminish with the proper care,” commented Doug Carson. More than 150 pieces of art from 100 area artists will be featured. “Every year we increase the amount of art and quality,” said Kelly Siefkin, spokeswoman for Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. “I think it’s really grown in terms of scope. A lot more people in the community are aware of it. A lot of people love attending it.” The Art Bra Show will feature sculptures, collages and paintings that are insp
Sacramento business owner and entrepreneur David Picton has been named to the board of directors of the Albie Carson Breast Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to breast cancer education, outreach and screening in the Greater Sacramento region.
