Sacramento hip-hop artists and followers braved the Tuesday night rain to see Abstract Rude, Los Angeles rapper and co-founder of hip-hop collective Project Blowed, perform at East Sacramento’s Blue Lamp. The show, sponsored by Midtown’s My BBQ Spot, was opened by local hip-hop talents DJ Oasis, Prozac Morris, Illecism, Random Abiladeze and DJ Nocturnal. Sacramento-native Prozac Morris was the first act to successfully engage the crowd. His energy switched something on in his audience, who began to press in. Abstract Rude's name tells a lot about the L.A. emcee. He picked up "Abstract" when interpretive dance duo Tribe Unique witnessed his crazy dance style and put a name to it. The second half of the name was added when Abstract Rude began growing dreadlocks in 1991. Older Rastas told him his locks were going to be "rude." Saturday at The Blue Lamp, Rude will bring his poetic style to live performance, incorporating everything from reggae to soul to interpretive dance.
