Anyone looking to discover all of the nooks and crannies of Sacramento can join the Sacramento Walking Sticks, a 27-year-old club that organizes year-round walks all over Sacramento. There are over 500 members in the Sacramento Walking Sticks, making it the largest walking club in the American Volkssport Association. The AVA is a walking organization with more than 300 clubs in the United States. The Walking Sticks organize walks in the Midtown and downtown areas as well as surrounding areas such as Rancho Cordova and Elk Grove. The Undy 5000 5K Run/Walk to fight colon cancer is coming to Sacramento for the first time ever. It will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at William Land Park, kicking off March, which is also Colon Cancer Awareness Month. The event is one of three Undy 5000 races in March. Participants are encouraged to run in their underwear as a tongue-in-cheek reference to the area affected by colon cancer. “We wanted to have a great start to Colon Cancer Awareness Month,” said Todd Setter, National Undy 5000 Event Director. “We know Sacramento will be a great host for the region’s first Undy 5000 event. Music lovers and philanthropists alike will have the chance to see legendary rock band KISS perform live at this year’s annual Walk ‘N Rock For Kids fundraiser on May 29 at Raley Field. The combination concert and 5K walk event is hosted by the Hope Productions Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “provide resources to children and youth charities to ensure sustainability, viability and awareness,” according to its website. The foundation provides marketing and fundraising training to area nonprofits at no charge in an effort to aid in their ongoing success. May 31, 2010 — The Annual Walk 'N Rock took place at Raley Field on Sunday, May 30. The event is organized by Sacramento-based Hope Productions Foundation to support local children’s charities. Hope Productions Foundation anticipates that the morning walk, combined with business sponsorships and Sunday evening’s benefit concert, starring rock legends Heart and Sammy Hagar, will raise nearly $700,000 for local children’s charities. This fund raising walk and benefit concert event will unite the community for a day of fun as we celebrate and raise funds to support our local children. Saturday, Sept. 12 No events are scheduled for this day. Sunday, Sept. 13 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Capitol City Aids Fund will be holding their annual walk and rally at the Capitol. Those who wish to walk or run the 5K course around the Capitol can register at Fleet Feet Sports, 2311 J St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The group will also be holding a health fair on the west steps of the Capitol will provide healthy snacks and drinks.
