The sponsorship funded artist Beate Mok’s interpretive painting of two prematurely born baby girls, and was sold in the silent auction for $207. The event was held Saturday, Sept. 26, and featured 50 artists portraying 50 different children’s stories.</p>
<p>Owner of ZAP Creative Studios and Painting for Miracles Co-Founder Julie Knudsen said an estimated 325 people turned out for the three hour fundraiser. She felt this year’s event was a success because of the community involvement, the promotion of the event and the artwork.</p>
<p>“We had a video made by Peppers.TV that helped us in a big way get the story out, and then MY58 turned it into a 30 second spot and ran it 40 times before the event,” Knudsen said. “Also, the Arts and Corrections, Deuel Vocational Institute from Tracy brought $3,000 in merchandise to add to our auction. It gave them a huge morale boost to help raise money for these kids.”</p>
<p>Josh Harmatz, CEO of Sacramento mortgage company Voyage Home Loans, said he was not only impressed with the amount of effort put into the event and artwork, but was astonished with the sheer emotion each painting portrayed. He was especially touched with Mok’s interpretation of the premature girls in her painting.<br />

“Painting for Miracles was a great showcase of community and art coming together for a remarkable cause,” Harmatz said. “We were honored to be involved this year as a sponsor, and were overwhelmed with the portrayal of children’s stories the artists brought to life. It was a wonderful event, with a lot of dedication and heart. We are looking forward to our partnership with the UC Children’s Hospital, and the Children Miracle Network, for many years to come.”</p>
<p>The highest bid for a painting went to Kyle Moreno’s interpretation, “Tree Squid” for $250. The painting represented Andy Trevino, 9, of Massachusetts’ story of surviving an extremely rare genetic mutation called Primary Immune Deficiency (PID) NEMO. Andy lived through bi-weekly infusions and an isolated childhood—as germs from the outside world could be deadly to him—until 2004. It was then that his sister, Sophia, was born and brought him life-saving stem cell bone marrow from her umbilical cord. Today, Andy lives a relatively normal life.</p>
<p>All proceeds from the Painting for Miracles event benefited the Children's Miracle Network at UC Davis Children's Hospital.</p>
