Once a year the Auburn Community throws a big 'ole Party, and wants all our neighbors to know you're invited. This Friday, June 19, The Auburn Park and Recreation District takes the lead on the regions biggest and best Free Concert and Family Fun Event. Party in the Park has grown to be the "Premier Music Event" in the Foothills, and it is because of entertainment such as this years headliners The Waybacks.
The Waybacks have been thrilling festival crowds for some time now with their unique blend of styles, which really defies definition but appeals to a wide variety of tastes, I would suggest going on YouTube and searching their name, it is quite a journey. From great songs when they were the "backing band" for the Grateful Deads Bob Weir, to a sultry rendition of a swamp New Orleans influenced ballad. In words I would have to say they are a rockin', folksy, rootsy, semi-acoustic toe-tappin' good time vocal jam band.
Opening up for The Waybacks, is Sacramento's own Kate Gaffney, who will be bringing her all-star band, which includes some favorite faces including guitar wiz Steve Randall. If you have not had a chance to catch Kate, I hope you take advantage of this great opportunity.
While music is the focus, it is far from the only reason to come up and enjoy Party in the Park. While there you will find a huge BBQ Pit, offering everything from the perfect Tri-Tip Sandwich to home cooked sweet potatoe delights (don't knock it until you tried it!) , of course there is pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs & more and to top it off is Cheri's Home Made Ice Cream! As this is a Summer kick-off event, we plan for the heat, in addition to the ice cream, Ice Cold Beer & Margaritas will be on hand, as well as Jamba Juice and a variety of other cool treats. Most all the food is served up by local service clubs and other worthy non-profit organizations. While you are welcome to bring your own food & drink (non alchoholic) we hope you will choose to bring your wallet and leave the food and drinks to us.
Got Kids? Well Party in the Park was started by a selfish dad (that would be me) who found it hard to find a way to listen to great music and still fulfill my parental duties. The Kids Zone is great, from the areas biggest climbing walls, to the ever popular pony rides and a ton of cool inflatables (bring the swimming suits kids, there will be 2 giant water slides this year) - all close by and within eyeshot of the music venue.
If that is not enough, we throw in a bunch of cool craft vendors and demonstration booths! We try to find a little something for everyone, cause I got a mom and dad I need to please, not to mention my now not so young boys! I encourage you to come up early, but don't worry if you get out late, The Waybacks won't start until 7:30!
