Have you heard of the concept that we are separated by only 6 degrees? It refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth; A believable concept when contemplating how small the world really is. It is particularly evident these days with all the social media avenues being utilized by young and old alike. There’s Twitter, Facebook, My Space, and a world of other social networking sites for connecting with others. And so was born Only2degrees.com.

Only2degrees.com is an innovative talk radio show created by Darcy Jones and Lisa Vinton after realizing the power within their circle of social networking and the difference their connections made within their community. Knowing the reach of the Internet, they took advantage of “online” social networking. The opportunity to communicate both locally and around the world to provide entertainment, education and a connection to others is the shows premise. Narrowing the gap between business owners, individuals and the communities they serve to only2dgrees.com.

Darcy Jones is a Financial Advisor and Planning Specialist with Smith Barney, a published author, and keynote speaker. She is actively in involved in Rotary International, Murrieta Chamber of Commerce, Professional Women’s Roundtable, and Susan G. Komen Foundation. She has an incredible way of using humor and enthusiasm to encourage individuals to step out of their comfort zone and do something great for both themselves and others.

Lisa Vinton is President/CEO of Services for Success, Inc. and founder of the Southwest Pregnancy Counseling Center. She’s also a published author, keynote speaker, and has recently starred in Worlds Strictest Parents, a reality TV show. She is an active member of Rotary International, Murrieta Chamber of Commerce, and could be considered a “professional” volunteer since she is extremely active in the community in which she lives and desires to improve the lives of anyone in need.

JP Raineri is a TV and Radio personality in Southern California who has taken a step away from the microphone to assist Lisa and Darcy with their vision. He works behind the scenes with only2degrees towards his dream of becoming a top notch player in TV and Radio Production. The show is professionally produced in cooperation with JP’s company, Bad Fish Productions.

Through the show, Lisa and Darcy seek to provide entertainment, education, and connectivity to business owners as well as individuals who are looking for more creative ways to develop relationships both personally and professionally. They offer their world wide listeners segments on wine tasting (one of their favorite past-times), business spotlights, as well as helpful tips on running your own business in the black. They use humor and human interest stories to communicate how we all can better serve each other.

Since Darcy and Lisa live here in California, an idea to go on the road and do a Capitol Cities Tour was formed. What better place to start than in their home state? The weekend of June 20-22 the party begins, here in Sacramento! Only2degrees is working with recommendations from Sacramento365.com and the Convention & Visitors Bureau in showcasing some of Sacramento’s finest establishments. Saturday and Sunday nights there will be Meet and Greets to introduce the hosts during the course of their weekend visit and show tapings (Look out for announcements!). So far, in addition to Sacramento365.com, we’ll be interviewing the owner of Culinary Specialists & Mulvaney’s B&L, Patrick Mulvaney; the CEO of MetroHub Network, Jon Lee; and the Director of Fairytale Town, Kathy Fleming, to name a few.

A follow up with more information regarding the time and location for the meet and greets will be posted as the event nears. Here’s to narrowing the gap right here in Sacramento from 6 to only2dgrees!

Buried somewhere in what appears to be a press release is a possibly-interesting story about two possibly-local (but maybe not) women who host an internet talk show that is about something that might be interesting.
I've read it three times, but am still not clear.
So here's where citizen journalists come in: One thing that is clear from this is that there will be an event June 22-23 somewhere in Sacramento that may involve taping a segment of their internet talk show. (Or maybe not.)
Rather than see this as promospam, perhaps someone can tease out a story that might actually tell readers of The Sacramento Press something that is going to happen here.
Any takers?

That's a good one, promospam :-)

Yes, lots of infomercials have been popping up here fronting as journalism. I think SacPress needs to crack down on this misuse of contributing or reporting information.

We have a different attitude about people who post press releases from most media. We don't mind. We figure that some press releases - which the press uses all the time to "seed" stories - are worthwhile. Heck, I've posted some myself, straight from the email.
The difference is transparency. We figure that readers are smart enough to figure out that a press release isn't journalism - but might still have some valuable information. Case in point: My story today on the No Service Fee Wednesday from Live Nation. Essentially a rewritten press release (with some caveats), it's there because it could be valuable info to our readers.
But at the same time, I don't mind making a little fun of press releases posted as stories, especially if they're trying to slip by. I think we can all see through them. And perhaps the poster of the release will get that, and come back with something a little more informative about something that is going to happen in Sacramento. Like, what it will BE, exactly.
;-)

I'm still considering writing a story about what I call the "one degree of Sacramento" effect, a phenomenon I have noticed around town wherein long-term Sacramento residents seem to either already know everyone, or know someone who knows them. In the past year or two I have lost track of how many people I have met who I somehow never met before, but who I share mutual friends with. It's related to Sacramento's so-called "small-town feel": if you wander around Sacramento's streets you pretty much can't help but bump into people you know constantly (case in point, David: last time I ran into you and Nicholas at Rubicon, several people I knew walked past and said hi, and I encountered a couple more people I knew on my way home.)

It's kind of like living in an episode of "Seinfeld"--even in a big busy city like New York, people encounter each other on the street all the time because most people spend a lot of time out on the street.

I have been known to post a rewritten press release, and will probably do more. I like to think of Sacramento Press as a combination community bulletin board and "one degree" type place where people bump into each other and comment on the news of the day--whether it's a political issue or news of an upcoming event.

But if I think the folks posting infospam-journalism are fronts for the folks with the E-meters, I'm still going to razz them. That's just how I roll.

Also, it is very unclear what the actual aim/outcome of this group is except that they want to get together to swig expensive alcoholic beverages...

Agreeance on the promospam for Scientology. Notice that one of the participants works for an anti-choice outfit (Southwest Pregnancy Counseling). This sort of thing is very subtle, wherein they try to present a sweetness-and-light front in the guise of "community service," when they are actually just shilling for themselves. Deplorable use of this space!

I sincerely appreciate the feedback for a first time submission. I'm sorry to have mislead you all and of course my next entry will be more specific and will be submitted to the editorial staff for obvious refinement.

Darcy and I look forward to meeting all of you and answer any questions you may have about our show... and our intentions! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, but either way, we would appreciate the opportunity to talk with you before you form an opinion! Enjoy your evening... and Cheers! Lisa Vinton
