The local firefighters’ union may complete its contract negotiations with the city next week, according to Chris Harvey, spokesman for Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522.

The union is still confident it will be able to reach an agreement with the city “that’s beneficial to the citizens of Sacramento, as well as the firefighters,” Harvey said.

Gus Vina, the Sacramento assistant city manager negotiating with the union, was not available to immediately return a phone call Thursday.

The city’s $50 million deficit would be resolved through cuts in the proposed budget. The fire department would face cuts of 50 positions and $5 million, the budget document states. Vina has said that the planned cuts to the fire department would not take place if the firefighters decide to give up scheduled pay increases.

Firefighters cannot strike.

Why do we need to have any negotiations with them? Why do we have any contracts with them?

Because our elected officials like the money. Our city council members have been hiking up the salaries of firefighters for years...they hike up FF's salaries & benefits, and in return Local 522 gives campaign contributions to council members that "support" them, it's that simple. It's one of the biggest scams ever conceived, but most people around this town do not care to hear how it works...you see, they are Democrats.

Unions = Democrats. This is something that is an indisputable fact. The unions support Dem candidates with campaign contributions. Dem candidates return the favor by paying union members very high salaries and benefits. The investment/return for unions is like $1 for $1000 returned via salaries & benefits, which also means increased union revenue through dues. Keep in mind Democrats don't care how much the union members get paid, after all, it's only the taxpayers money, and the higher the wages, the more money being given back to their campaigns.

Now in the situation at hand, if the council was not corrupted by union campaign money, this matter could have been settled with one phone call to the Fire Chief to explain that his budget is getting cut. But that's not reality, the reality is every one of our council members is controlled by the unions...so they are walking a tightrope...trying to stay balanced with bags of union cash on one side and a leaking bag of taxpayers cash on the other. The don't mind losing the taxpayers money..or even falling (after all they have a tax payer supported safety net...raising taxes and borrowing more money) they just don't want to fall and end up with a half empty bag of union cash because the union is pissed about wage cuts.

This is legalized corruption...bribery and extortion...we put people in prison for this, unless they are elected.

But who cares really... Sacramento is controlled by the Dems...most in this city are public employees...to them there is no integrity, honor or right and wrong..there is just being in control and fattening their own wallets even if it bankrupts the state and the rest of us suckers have to pay for their parasitic way of life.

The next big California proposition...outlawing collective bargaining by public employees. What will public employees say when they realize they went too far and citizens finally fought back?

Oops?

The firefighters in this city are nothing but cry babies. They want their raise while the rest of city employees are not getting rasies and have to take a furlough day a month. They should be glad to have a job since so many city employees are being let go. Let all 50 or more go......
