The city continues to view Cal Expo as an option for a new arena for the Sacramento Kings even though the governor said last week that the state may sell the property.

Mayor Kevin Johnson said Tuesday that the city wants to ensure "that we are in a position to make sure we're continuing to go forward with the arena."

Cal Expo is "one option" for the city, he said.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said last week the state could address its deficit by selling Cal Expo and other state-owned properties.

Johnson said it was likely that he and other city staffers will meet with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in the next couple of weeks.

The city faces a $50 million deficit. The state is grappling with a deficit of a minimum of $15.4 billion.

It's over, the Kings are as good a gone now. The Maloofs have been looking to build a new arena in Sac for ten years now and their still at square one. Why would any developer continue to put time and money into a project out at CalExpo with the idea looming that it will be sold off soon to cover the States deficit.

Johnson apparently wants the tax payers of California to give Cal Expo away to the NBA...and the City would pull bonds in the hundreds of millions of dollars, putting us further in debt to keep this horrible team. I'd much rather see a Major League baseball team if anything...it would bring in much more revenue...and it would be about the same price, if not cheaper than going to a lame River Cats game.

Also...Raging Waters would be torn out...for me that would be a deal breaker.... I love taking my kids to Raging Waters much more than I would enjoy any basketball game...you got to love those water slides!

Jim, the Rivercats are as affordable as they come. You can't compare MLB ticket prices to AAA baseball prices. Also, if the Kings leave Arco and leave town then Arco Arena will also be forced to close with not enough revenue from and events to maintain the building. This is the one point people fail to see if the Kings leave, concerts and other events will also stop coming here.

It was reported last month that the A's have a 25% chance or locating here, with those odds it really means that Sac is number 3 or 4 on a list below other cities the A's would rather relocate to first before here. Were going to be used as a carrot-on-a-stick so that the A's owners get what they want somewhere else.... the city was used by the Raiders this way 20 years ago.

Don't get your hopes up Jim and be thankful for what we have.

Trapper, I am from the Bay Area, I have been going to Giants and A's games my entire life...I also take my kids regularly. The River Cats prices are as expensive in not more so than going to a MLB game.

I cant believe that a coke is $5 .50, $3.75 for a small water, a beer is $7-9 bucks, a small bag of peanuts $5.50, $7 bucks for a hot dog..and on and on.

Also I had average seats, they cost me 22.50 apiece. Yeah I know, i could have sat on the grass...I actually like to watch the game...and you cant really from the grass...

by the time your done, if you take the kids, the average family would have to work for nearly two days to pay for a trip to the game. NO THANKS... Who can afford these prices other than a public employee?

I will never go to another River Cats game..It's just another gimmick to fleece me out of hard earned cash.

I guess if you compare sitting in the upper deck at a A's game to lower level seating with the Rivercats, then $22.50 per ticket for an A's game is a better deal.

Sacramento won't be getting a MLB anytime soon, the city doe's not have the corporate sponsors to support a team or enough money to actually lure one here. There are several other cities in the US that have cash incentive for a team to relocate there, Sacramento doe's not.

For the facts:

Single Ticket Prices
Giants: http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/ballpark/seating_pricing.jsp
A's: http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/ticketing/singlegame.jsp?c_id=oak (At bottom of page)
River Cats: http://www.rivercats.com/tickets/singletickets/

Getting concession pricing has been a little difficult

Baseball and Basketball are fundamentally different business models.

The stadium sizes and number of games in the regular season and post season are very different.

Perhaps most importantly, the TV revenue structures are very different especially how that revenue is split and shared by franchises, leagues and networks.

This is a very complex topic.

Ok.. you're all right... $7-9 bucks for a beer and $7 bucks for a hot dog, after paying almost a hundred bucks to walk in the door is totally reasonable.

Keep in mind this is a 3-4 hour game in sweltering heat...requiring lots of fluids... and you cant bring anything in with you because they check your back packs... I know I tried...they made me throw away Gatorade I brought.

Lets add this up: $90 bucks to walk in, $28 for 4 beers (2 for each adult), cotton candy for 2 kids $10 bucks, 4 hot dogs 28 bucks, 2 cokes for kids $10, 4 waters $15

hmm and how much did this game cost me $181 dollars!

Well, such is their right in a free market economy, I suppose. Perhaps the government can mandate price caps for retail and food service businesses to protect the consumer.

Excellent point Joel... Jim would prefer a government cap on prices in the spirit of socialism.

I just want to clarify...

In "City predicts $30 million deficit for 2010/2011," you mentioned that the city felt the budget adequately addresses the $50 million deficit--is selling Cal Expo + state properties actually written into the proposed budget or is it being explored as a possibility?

Into the state budget or the city budget? Cal Expo is state property, so any revenue from its sale would go to the state, not the city.

You forgot the parking fee of $9. OR has it gone up? Remember, all of the streets in the immediate area are marked "No Parking". Better take your bicycles.

Biking to Raley Field is not a reasonable option when you have young kids...especially if the game goes late.
