Tuesday, November 4th was to be like nearly every other Tuesday in my life. Head into the office, do some email, make some connections, then get picked up by my best friend Abe Cunningham for our weekly lunch at Tuli Bistro. But when Abe called fifteen minutes before our meeting time, I wasn't prepared for the news he would deliver. Last week he was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit and transferred to a brain rehabilitation hospital in Northern California. The hospital specializes in the care and management of traumatic and non-trauma related brain injuries with a team of highly skilled therapists, nurses and consultants. He's in great hands. He still lies in a coma, however his vitals (heart, lungs, and blood pressure) all exhibit very stable functions and doctors have begun removing much of the excess monitoring equipment. Today, please be especially aware of your personal choices. Never give in to pressure and try not to be discouraged. Our gratitude to all of you for your encouragement and willingness to wait for him. Chi had been at the coast with a few of his siblings and I and forgot to bring the last book he bought. The book, Wake Up by Jack Kerouac, has been brought to the hospital by his wife and we are all reading it to him. Today's assignment is to be a the sister, brother, and mother to all. When you have an action to take, try to do with that in your mind through your day. You will be continuing the good work done for all of us and our extended family.
