Lane changes will initiate on N street as of November 13th. It has already begun the process of turning into a two way street, from the one way street it currently is.

It's part of a larger project converting several one way streets in Midtown to two way streets.

The City of Sacramento, on their website, states that there will always be one lane of traffic available on these streets, but I must admit I will be sad to see my street change its status.

While it can be an annoyance to deal with one way streets when you are just visiting Midtown, it's fairly convenient for those that live here. When driving home I can park on either side of the street without much effort.

There's also the sense of knowing something that not many people know, really knowing your way around town.

Do you love or hate the one way streets in Midtown? What do you love or hate about them?

I am glad to see fewer one way streets in Midtown. And N converting will help my commute.

In general, conversions like these slow traffic in residential areas and allow more alternative routes. This spreads commutes and traffic and relieves congestion.

Fewer one way streets mean more traffic jams. I hope you enjoy the extra time in your car because that is the only help you will get for your commute. And they are not really allowing more alternative routes if they keep putting up half street closures.

I disagree. One way streets mean fewer routes. When there are traffic blockages, the more alternative routes the better. Traffic speeds will be reduced, but it is a residential neighborhood after-all. No lanes will be taken out and there will be more alternative routes

Both Geoff and I live in the neighborhood, and we don't agree about the change. But we can agree that traffic on N street is not heavy; it is nothing like L or J.

Oh, and there will be no half street closures on this side of midtown. Those closures were requested and approved by those neighborhoods for specific traffic problems.

I love the one way streets. By bike or by car, it's much easier and safer to get around. I really hope the city leaves P and Q streets alone. Keep an eye on N street, I'm predicting major back ups at 21st and 24 street. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I think several other one ways will be on the chopping block soon. I will write a follow up post with more information.

Booo! Traffic calming projects make me about as calm as a chihuhua on Independence Day. Freeport Blvd is a cluster-fock now that it's two-way. Costly project, too.

I"m totally fed up with "street calming"concept, and have been since the begining. It can be so difficult navigating through some areas of downtown that people choose to avoid it entirely.Heading east from around 12th and Cst gets me really pissed off. It's hard to give others accurate directions too.I like one-way street's,and two-way streets are fine.I dont like the1/2 street closures,or buses & bikes only, etc. When will the city just leave it be?

I am not a fan of closing streets or bus only lanes.

This project would not close any streets or re-route traffic, and it will make it easier for you to give directions because N will be a two way street in that area.

This is slightly off topic, but are there any plans to take out the "Do Not Enter" sign at 27th and E? I see no reason for it to be there, but maybe the neighborhood didn't like the traffic off the freeway. As far as I'm concerned, the fewer one-way streets we have, the better.

I talked to the couple that owns the Fremont Market at 24th and N, Directly across from the American Market on the opposite corner. I asked them if they were expecting a dip in business, since vehicles traveling into town would have easier access to the American Market versus Fremont Market.

They both smiled, pointed outside to the 24th Street parking spaces.

"We have parking, they don't"

So in short, no.

I use N Street everyday, so my plan is to watch for small changes and base my opinion on what I encounter. I imagine it could not be too terrible.

As a side note, I was just walking down N at 22nd as the workers were taking down the black & white one way signs. I asked if I could have one.....

They said no.
