Until April 14th, 2009 we, at The Sacramento Press, had been lax in enforcing our policies. As of that date we have begun to more strictly enforce our policies.

We strive to be the best source of local news and information in the Sacramento area. We aim to do that with a mix of paid reporting, and contributions from the Sacramento community. However our site is primarily written by community volunteers who submit their content without direct contact with The Sacramento Press

Anyone who lives in Sacramento is welcome to sign up and write for our site with no editorial approval prior to posting. It is a very free system, the only caveat is that you abide by the rules and policies of the site.

While our terms of service, privacy policy and contributor agreement go into depth about our policies, here are a couple of the basic principles.

  • If you are writing for our site please keep you writing primarily about Sacramento. This site is not intended to inform people about state, national and international news. We want to know what's going on in our neighborhoods and in our area as a whole.
  • Treat others with courtesy and respect. Do not swear in comments or articles that you write. Do not attack others on the site; debate the issues, not the people.

As we have become increasingly popular these messages have been lost to some of our community contributors and some of our users. We have allowed posts that have had nothing to do with local news and information in Sacramento.

From this point forward we will take down any posts that are in violation of our policies.

Please feel free to comment below or send in your ideas by emailing feedback@sacramentopress.com.

Thank you for being a part of The Sacramento Press.

do you have a policy involving disclosure in instances where individuals write pieces about institutions or establishments they work for?

Yes, we allow it. However, in general it is our policy that people be transparent about who they are, if they are a stakeholder in what they are reporting.

In other words if you are a developer writing about one of your own developments, you should note that fact in the article and in your profile.

Are you also going to remove people who make up information to sensationalize their posts?

If we find that a contributor is knowingly falsifying information that will result in the offending article being removed and likely a suspension for the offending contributor.

So far we have not had an issue with people making up information. Is there something specific to which you are referring? If there is, you can certainly write us via email, feedback@sacramentopress.com, and flag the offending post.

From what Raoul Kleven, an intern at The Sacramento Press, informed me, you are correct about your point that Neil Cavuto was not a speaker at the event. However, Neil Cavuto was promoted by the event organizers (http://www.site.sacteaparty.com/uploads/Sacramento_Tea_Party_Flyer.pdf). Cavuto was there, doing his show.

Mr. Osibin, admitted to not seeing Cavuto speak in person. His fault was making a bad assumption. I appreciate your keeping him honest. I don't think the mistake was that egregious and so I didn't pull the post, I did however add an editor's note indicating the factual inaccuracy.

Mr. Osibin's article was lackluster reporting and so I never used it on my front page and ran with Kleven's factually accurate account of the event.
