Replacement of a gas line is postponing the opening of the downtown seafood restaurant Blackbird Kitchen & Bar from Valentine’s Day to Feb. 21, but the restaurateurs are still able to work inside, and the iconic graphic on the front is complete.

“The buildout is being done right now, and the menu will be available in a couple of weeks,” said General Manager Shayne “7evin” Iles.

“We’re going to open when PG&E finishes the work, so hopefully it’s sooner, or at least on time,” he said.

Officials from Pacific Gas and Electric did not return messages left on Friday.

Blackbird Kitchen & Bar is located at 1013-1015 Ninth St.

What type of restaurant is this? Quick and casual or high end gourmet? If its high end gourmet it won't do well, there are too many state workers here during lunch looking for quick, cheap meals! look at crave it grill, next door, less than 8 months and they were outta here.

But Crave-it Grill was basically just a Sysco truck with a counter. I think restaurants that put some uniqueness into their offering will be rewarded.

"A Sysco truck with a counter;" that's beautiful! Agreed Joel, on both points

Plus parking, and across the street with tons of bums walkers lurking around, makes cease Chavez park an eye sore. Hopefully the new renovations will add some light into that blight, just saying don't be mad.

Lord, I miss that building's longtime tenant, Fummy's Teriyaki. "Gravy on da rice?" Oh, yeah, Fummy! Best tonkatsu in town. Yeah, better than June's.

Buried lede: the general manager refers to himself as "7evin", and you acknowledged it in print. How could you type that with a straight face? :)
