A 100-year-old building on the border of downtown and Midtown Sacramento officially reopened Wednesday after about a year of renovation work in what proponents said is an example of redevelopment at its best.

More than 100 businesspeople, developers, city staff and government officials were present at the opening of the Maydestone building as Mayor Kevin Johnson cut a chain with bolt cutters in a twist on the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“This is something that we’re very proud of in...

800J is over 90% occupied. Majority of units are market rate. Only a percentage (15-25% range) are at low income levels. And Temple was just added as a ground floor tenant...1801L has a similar affordability mix. And that project is also over 90% occupied with a long wait list for its affordable units. Downtown and midtown rental market is STRONG right now. With much much more needed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the 800J plaza on 9th and J also an affordable housing project funded by millions in subsidies? The lofts upstairs are mostly vacant.

Looks like projects like these are just a way to show that redevelopment is beneficial, when actually it's not. Last I heard the 800J plaza will soon be handed over to the bank as CIM is deeply in debt for that building.
