Held in the intimate courtyard setting of Liquid Nightclub in Citrus Heights, the well-attended event benefitted charities including the Armed Forces Foundation, Firefighters Burn Institute and Sacramento Sheriff's Toy Project.

Battle of the Badges Fight Series events are a lead-up to the title fight at Battle of the Badges VIII. Last year's Battle of the Badges VII was held in August at Memorial Auditorium.

All bouts had a three-round limit, and on the card Saturday were 10 preliminary matches and one main event, featuring heavyweights Bryan Williams (Fresno PD) vs. Mike Gomez (CDC-CSP Sac).

Highlights of the evening for the crowd included a lights-out KO of David Richardson (CDC Solano) by Chris McElroy (CDC CSP Sac) and a brutal pummeling of Mike Hernandez (El Cerrito PD) by Noel Montes (CDC-CCPOA) that went the full three rounds and left Hernandez's face covered in blood.

What an awesome event to watch. This was put together in such an incredible manor. The MC, for the event, Chris Gold, representing the California Correctional Supervisors Organization (CCSO) did a great job. I understand CCSO, has been a sponsor of this event for several years now. What a great organization.

Friggin' idiots. How can we learn to treat humanity with respect when crap like this goes on? Jiminy, get a clue. Boxing is fighting, we need a more peaceful world.

Have you ever boxed? The strategy involved is a lot like chess. Sometimes you throw a jab just to set up an uppercut combo three or four moves down the line. Is chess fighting? If you use your mind and not your body to fight, then it is OK? Don't be so judgmental, and you sound like a nerd.

Boxing is science.

Perhaps you're referring to MMA.

The 'chess match' analogy is exactly what we use at Grimz Gym. Another is 'solving the puzzle' of setting up your punches. Its much more a battle of the mind than the body. The overall regimen of training to effectively, technically box well, with tactical decisions being made in milliseconds, is far and above more grueling cerebrally than any other sport today. Thanks to Steven and Sac Press for yet another year of fine coverage of BOTB. See you in a few months for round 2 !
