I just received the following on my website. I'm not quite sure why because I normally write about fictitous crime and criminals. But I thought it interesting enough to pass on.  I know many Sacramento Press readers have no sympathy for landlords (You know who you are), but I thought I should pass this on anyway.

«I need back-up on this!! Had my rental property inspected...by "Willie"...he listed items to be fixed and said to have my handyman call him when he was out to fix things and he'd go over it with him. He had him rig something under the sink in a way my guy thought was 'the dumbest thing he's ever done"; then he said "go ahead and do it like this" regarding a firewall around the water heater. My guy did everything he asked...because "Willie" said, "do it like this and I'll pass the inspection". WELL...it wasn't "Willie" back for the reinspection. Now they say, redo the firewall ... and next year we're gonna call ya on the sink issue. If I don't do it in 2 weeks, it's a $150 fine. I already owe an extra $80.00 for a reinspect because my tenant wouldn't let the handyman in before our "time was up"...and I couldn't give a 5 day notice...because it was scheduled to be done on time. This is like Mafia tactics in Sacramento. How can we fight this crazyness??? HELP!!»

«I'm already out $300 on repairs, $80 on reinspect due to tenant not allowing repairs in a timely manner...and now the "threat" of $150 fine if not corrected within two weeks. There should be someone, somewhere, checking on these crazy guys! I have a lovely home, and the tenants don't have any complaints ... nor do they want them in their home. They asked for a "peep" hole in the front door...even though there is a plate-glass window next to the door which would give full vision of the porch, along with a security door. Unbelievable!!»

(In all fairness, I believe the writer is referring to Sacramento County rather than the City.)

As the Captain said, "What we got here is failure to communicate."

I take it that this is related to the Rental Home Inspection Program?
