I wonder if the Glass Agency will post a new billboard that will say "Ok, NOW it is over".

The letter written by Assistant City Manager of Sacramento, John Dangberg to the City Manager of Anaheim, Thomas Wood yesterday was the final straw. If there was any hope of the Kings staying, it is long gone. Not only was the letter impulsive and uncalled far, according to the Maloof brothers, who have finally spoken, it is off base.

The letter requests that Anaheim stop negotiations with the Kings because their actions are causing "irreparable harm" to the City of Sacramento. It then goes on to suggest that if the Kings do move, the Maloofs would blow off their 77 million dollar debt. Why our city representative would even suggest that is BEYOND me. The Maloofs have never missed a payment; have even paid forward according to Joe Maloof in an interview with the local Anaheim paper, The Orange County Register.

I am pretty ashamed of Sacramento today...I hate saying that but it is true. I am angry that I was represented by my Assistant City Manager in such a careless way. Too bad we can't get out of our own way. Good-bye Kings....

Love Sacramento, the forever Cow-town

Thanks newguy ...
As you can tell, I am a little upset. Sacramento has so many strikes against it now. I grew up here so I am fierce for this city.... but DAMN

Dangberg has just positioned the city to recover what will be horrendous losses to Sacramento taxpayers when the Maloofs default on Arco. You should be thanking him. The Maloofs broke-up with Sacramento four years ago...they're just getting around to leaving now.

There is a contract and a court system to settle any Maloof loan default that might occur. This letter is just a prop for the local media.

I agree with MyQuest. The Maloofs are hurting and they're up to something...it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but I think that releasing a letter like that before knowing the final decision OR having any idea if the Maloofs will repay their loan or not, was childish and positions Sacramento in a poor light. That letter isn't going to change the course of ANYTHING that was going to take place. The Maloofs already have their mind made up, but how their relationship with Sacramento plays out from now on, will likely be deeply changed by this action.

The Maloof's have NEVER missed a payment to anyone and have given $17 million to local charities in the last ten years.

We sure have a sad bunch running the city.

Only $17 million, what a bunch of greedy SOB's.

Our city will sure feel feel the loss of donations once the Maloof's leave.

disgusting act by Danberg. He is quite assumptive and we know what that means. OMG where are the counterchecks to our city fathers and what they are allowed to communicate. What a shame.

Is it just me - perhaps the cynic in me? Or does it seem coincidental that this apparently strong, albeit perhaps misguided, pro-active move would come from an Asst. City Manager just after the City Manager announces his resignation? I may be WAY off base, but it has a "I'm a take charge guy" kind of vibe. I don't know anything about this person and I apologize in advance if this is entirely inaccurate, but the timing is interesting.

I agree with you completely. I thought the exact same thing. Except I think it blew up in his face....because no one is backing up his statement...at least not from the city

Although it is addressed to the City of Anaheim, The letter seems quite obviously intended for the Sacramento audience. It appears to be face-saving "we're working hard for you, Sacramento" and also a bit of an advertisement that the City Mgr office is still functioning.

Anyway, I doubt Anaheim is overly concerned about an empty letter from the Assistant to a now resigned interim City Manager. Next weeks follow-on letter will come from the janitor trainee.
