About 11 miles east of Sacramento is the Yolo Basin Wildlife Area that feels a million miles away once you're there. It's a great escape!
A Great Blue Heron takes flight when approached.
The Yolo Wildlife area is home to many birds - Common Loon, Pacific Loon, Pied-Billed Grebe, Eared Grebe, Horned Grebe,
Western Grebe, American White Pelican. Double-Crested Cormorant, Least Bittern, American Bittern, Black-Crowned Night Heron, Green Heron, Cattle Egret, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Great Blue Heron, White-faced Ibis and Sandhill Crane.
It's also abundant in plants, fish and reptiles.
There are four major habitat types in the area:
Permanent Wetlands
Seasonal Wetlands
Riparian Forests
Grasslands
A lookout extends over a part of the wetlands.
A snowy egret does some fishing.
