Welcome to “SacQuotes,” where we ask folks on the street topical questions and post their answers. For this inaugural SacQuotes, we asked people at Eighth and K streets what they planned to do this Super Bowl Sunday. Here are their responses:
Britney Coleman, an employee for a national retail chain, said she plans to watch the game at her cousin’s house. “I’ll be distraught if the Steelers don’t win,” she said. “I know they’re going to win.” Coleman also said she plans on enjoying the bounty of food that her cousin always makes for the big game.
Tim Weinland, a Sacramento County employee and 49er fan, plans on watching the game at home. “I‘m rooting for the Packers, but really I’m just hoping for a close game. The commercials are OK too, but mainly I like to watch for the sport.”
Anthony Barela, who is permanently disabled, said he’ll watch the game at the MVP bar. “I don’t have a TV at home, so I’ll watch it on their big screens.” Barela has a deep feeling of resentment toward the Packers. “I hope the Steelers win,” he said through a thick beard. “Green Bay beat my Chicago Bears. I can’t forgive them for that.”
Office manager Edie Anderson is rooting for Green Bay all the way. “I grew up in Green Bay, and my mother is a sports nut. I’ll be watching the game with her,” Anderson said with a large smile. “I’m making some steaks and green chili tamales. I hope it’s a good game. Packers by eight points. But they‘re winning, no question.”
Ivan Morales said he does not plan to watch the game at all. “I’m not a sports guy. I’m going to go to church, then do some art. I make abstract art for Second Saturday.”
