To celebrate two of their favorite things: cats and the New Year, mural artists, Sofia Lacin and Hennessy Christophel, choose Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary for their annual charitable mural donation.

‘A Cat for Every Lap,' a 15 foot by 4 foot hand painted mural, will be unveiled at Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary at 6001 Folsom Blvd on the 8th of January, 2011. Ranging in facial expressions and personality just as much as humans, cats are wonderful subjects for a mural. The mural will depict a variety of larger-than-life size human laps occupied by a variety of feline friends.

It seems to be a good time to focus on these creatures, as shelters are packed or closing and so many animals are left homeless. Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary is one of the only no-kill animal shelters in Sacramento. ‘A Cat for Every Lap’ captures the individuality of cats and how our animals often become a member of the family. What a gift it is to be able to visit with the animals at Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary to determine which is best suited to you: it’s like speed dating, but with less pressure for conversation!

Recent college graduates, Sofia Lacin and Hennessy Christophel, have been painting all over Sacramento and Northern California for the past couple years; dozens of murals for a wide variety of clients. It has become their annual tradition to donate a mural to a nonprofit that really touches their hearts. Last year, they donated a 30 foot by 10 foot mural to the Volunteers of America family shelter.

“Our goal is to contribute to Happy Tail’s effort to grow and help more and more people find their perfect furry companion. It really enriches a life, two lives, really,” says Lacin.

Sofia and Hennessy aren't only incredibly talented artists, but they also have an inspiring sense of community that sets them apart. The duo created / donated a beautiful wall-to-wall mural at the Volunteers of America Residential Family Center in December 2009 that completely changed the atmosphere of the emergency shelter's dining hall and children's play area, transforming a somewhat sterile, "institutional" space into a warm, inviting and fun environment. Much success to them in 2011!
