So Mexican food I would say has to be one of my all time favorite styles of food so this time what’s for lunch is Poncho’s Mexican grill. Located rite on the corner of 21st and Broadway it is convenient for everyone. The first time I ate at Poncho’s was actually very much by chance, a friend and I had just finished a class at city and had some time to spare between our next classes. We decided to grab a bite but needed something close to school we just happened to be stopped at the light and looked over and were like hey why not this place. This could not have been a better choice, from the moment we walked in the service was amazing. Friendly people and just a good warm welcoming environment, and I can only say the same for the food. Chips and salsa is standard at a Mexican restaurant but fresh baked hand cut flour and corn tortilla chips with house made salsa and guacamole blew my mind. On top of the fresh hand made chips and salsa the tortillas with my entrée were hand made as well a personal fave of mine. It’s really hard to find truly good authentic Mexican food but I would say that with Poncho’s you defiantly get the real deal. So if you work around this area or just want to take your girl or boy to a great Mexican plate at a great price go stop by Poncho’s Mexican Grill trust me you will not be disappointed.

What? You say "it's truly hard to find good authentic Mexican food"? Seriously Adam, do you go out much? Sacramento's loaded with great Mexican restaurant; LOADED dude.

Anyway, I'll have to check out Poncho's, I remember when it was Buffalo Pizza and I’ve had a hard time going in there since because of all the great memories I had there with my family back then.

Good chips and salsa, but what about the main food groups? If you're gonna write up a restaurant at least give us something to chew on! Pozole? Chile rellenos? Menudo? Guess we'll have to stagger in and check 'er out ourselves. Or not.

I am hungry for more of Adam's Sacramento Mexican Restaurant critiques. I am a big fan of home made tprtillas. And I don't care how they fold the napkins at Poncho's, I care about the vibes. Adam's critique (sans Posole), is quite satisfactory to the "safe-to-say-it's-real-Mexican food" crowd. The real die-hards can always go hit up a van on Fruitridge and Stockton. Many Mexican restaurants only serve posole on fri-sat-sun. An exception to that is the Placitas north of Power Inn on Florin. Good vibes, too.
