While in LandPark yesterday, just off of 24th st. and 4th ave, I discovered a magical home; a home straight out of a fairy tale.

This house is literally the most beautiful house I have ever seen. Everywhere I turned I discovered some new little detail. As if each square inch told another story.

Beautiful hand crafted tiles were used in a Mosaic form to create wonderful images on the exterior of the house. Not only was there an 8 foot tall dragon on the side of the house, but in every window was a different design in stained glass.

The lamp post out in front appeared to have argyles on it, protecting the house. The ground cover and yard decorations were unique as well. Each possible nook and cranny contained another figure, a fairy, an owl, a frog, etc. Even the fire hydrant on the sidewalk was worked into the theme of the home.

The beauty I described can not be justified in writing or pictures. This majestic home and its artwork deserves recognition and has to be seen in person.

I was unable to speak with the owners of the home, but I managed to talk with Phil Caine their next door neighbor. He claims this sweet couple has been perfecting this project for the last 18 or 19 years. Caine informed me that the couple hand crafted each individual piece or tile themselves. Sure enough, as I looked closer, not one piece was the same as another.

“I frequently see her out front working on another detail and adding to it,” stated Caine.

This fantastic project covers every single inch of this house including the garage and continuing in to the back yard and onto a fence that they share with the Caines.

Caine informed me that in the summer, he and his wife often have a cup of tea in their backyard and enjoy the beautiful designs that shine through their half of the stained glass fence. “It’s just a real delight,” he said, with a smile.

Though I am not sure if any other house can compare, I hope to find more houses with interesting themes to them ridding through the streets of Landpark on my bike endeavors.

Did you mean Gargoyle's on the lamp post? Since you talked about it, it'd be nice if there was a shot of it. It'd definitely be interesting to see if you could talk to the owner and see if the detail continues inside.

Yes, the Dragon Home has a regional word-of-mouth reputation. I'm often asked by visitors to our neighborhood, when I'm outside gardening at my home on 4th Ave, where it is located. (But we who live here in Curtis Park prefer to think of it as one of our gems of Curtis Park, with all due respect to our good neighbors in Land Park.)

That is a great house, but it is definitely in Curtis Park, not Land Park.

I was born/raised in Sac's Land Park, and I've NEVER seen this fanciful house! Thank you for this little bit of urban discovery... Btw, my last name is Berg too!!!

Sarah, I believe that the beauty of being on a bike is that it affords us the opportunity to make discoveries like this one. Thanks so much for riding around our town and reporting about its treasures.

I was first introduced to this house about 15 years ago. I was riding around one night with a couple of friends, when the friend who was driving turned down a dark alley (it was late), pulled to a stop, and said "get out of the car!" We got out and there was this house, its artwork visible due to the streetlights and an alley lamp.

Some folks I have known call this part of Curtis Park "Hobbiton" due to its cluster of Tudor cottages, mature trees, parklike setting, and this fantasy-inspired house.

I've been here before. I see the lady always outside. I remember one year when I went over there for Halloween and gave toothpaste. I was like toothpaste? What the heck, I got dressed up for toothpaste!
