Cycle Chic is a worldwide sensation that promotes cycling as a way of life and always puts style over speed. It all started in Copenhagen when Mikael Colville-Andersen snapped a photo of a fashionable cyclist and posted it online. The movement has grown exponentially since, spreading across the globe to cities such as London, Charleston, San Francisco, and of course Sacramento. The idea is to encourage more bicycle trips by presenting powerful images of beautiful people using bikes as transportation while wearing everyday clothing. Each picture posted by a Cycle Chic blogger serves as a "flash card," showing oil addicts just exactly how fun, healthy, cool, attractive, green, practical, et cetera cycling can be.

The Sac Cycle Chic, Lorena Beightler, is a tireless advocate of biking with style in Sacramento. Her photos capture the essence of Sacramento bike culture for the whole world to see and draw inspiration from. Lorena came into the spotlight earlier this year when an unstable Amtrak employee cut the lock off her beloved bike at the Davis train station, allowing it to be stolen, then violently screamed at her when she protested. Her most recent project was the wildly successful Velo and Vintage Fashion Show, which brought together Sacramento's cycling and vintage fashion communities at the trendy Hot Italian in Midtown. Now she is introducing Cycle Chic Sundays with the goal to enjoy time with friends & make new ones while riding bikes & looking chic!

Here are the details I lifted from SacCycleChic.com:

What:  A lovely morning in Old Sac and Downtown Sac with coffee/tea, little culture and discovery, new friends and laughter.

Who:  Anyone who favors "style over speed"

Where:  Commencing a "Practical Cycle" (114 J St.) Old Sacramento.  We'll enjoy a slow ride over to Chocolate Fish Coffee (3rd and Q) for a delightful coffee or tea time.

Then we will ride to the Leland Stanford Mansion for a tour at 11:00 am (please bring $5 for tour)  The tour will last about 40 minutes.  We will then ride to the West steps of the Capitol for our obligatory Cycle Chic Sunday photo. ;)

Returning to Old Sac for a stroll around town, some shopping or perhaps lunch.

Please RSVP at our event page on facebook so we can have a head count for the tour.

When:  Sunday August 22nd from 10:00 am

Be a part of the global Cycle Chic movement!  Join us for a ride as we explore our Sacramento on bikes looking Chic!!

Thanks so much Cassidy for the love!! I want to point out that the "Cycle Chic Sundays!" ride are the creation of California Cycle Chic blogger Eva from Huntington Beach.

She launched the Cycle Chic Sundays! this year and the ride is being repeated all over the world.

You can check the global website to learn more about it at www.cyclechicsundays.com or by clicking in the Cycle Chic Sundays! Global's logo on the right column at www.saccyclechic.com
