A Shingle Springs couple is working to open 32 massage franchises in the Sacramento and Stockton areas over the next four years.

Terri and R.J. Cicchetti signed a deal to develop more Massage Heights locations less than two years after opening their first franchise in Roseville. They plan to open at least one more in the area themselves, but are primarily searching for other people to open the franchises, Terri Cicchetti said Friday.

Massage Heights offers a monthly membership program that enables a client to get a one-hour massage session from a licensed massage therapist for $50 and additional hour-long sessions for $40 that month. Membership requires clients to pay for six to 12 months in advance or to sign up for automatic electronic withdrawals from a bank account or credit card, she said.

The business was launched in Alamo Heights, Texas, in 2004 by another couple, Shane and Wayne Evans. The memberships were created to guarantee monthly income and clients, which allows the company to lower the cost of the massages.

The Roseville spa has 1,000 monthly members. Drop-in and one-time clients can also get massage services, Cicchetti said.

The corporation has 60 franchises operating currently. The Cicchetti's deal is part of the company's plan to open 1,560 more locations over the next five years.

The Cicchettis hope the first two new locations will open in the area within six months. Midtown and downtown may each see a Massage Heights open farther down the road, she said.

What in God's name does the Sacramento region need with more massage parlors?? I would strongly caution any would be franchisee that the only ones who will be making any money is the franchiser.

I second Rhys02's comment. Sacramento already has Massage Envy all over the region. I have friends that are members and love it. I also applaud the concept that legit massage therapists have a steady income. They provide a valuable and needed service. Before I shelled out a lot of money and tied myself up contractually I would look long and hard how much demand can be created and how much competition will drive down expected revenue.
