Sacramento, CA, Neighbors wake to flames and sparking power lines in Downtown Sacramento

Around 2:45am Monday, the Sacramento City Fire Department responded to a garage fire at 1314 26th St. Neighbors were evacuated as the fire threatened surrounding homes. A resident of one of the evacuated homes said, "At 2:45 in the morning, you're woken up to a fire, it's scary, it's a heart pounding experience". Power lines popped overhead as firefighters knocked down the fire. The fire is currently under investigation.

I heard the numerous fire sirens from my area and wondered why and where the fires were hoping it was not one of our historic houses. Hopefully, fire officials will be able to determine the cause. There are many of these old garages just waiting for an even greater tragedy than this.

Incidentally, Bianca, your title is very misleading. 26th Street is Midtown--not Downtown.

Actually, it does, and has been blessed (if you will) by SacPress just like mine. But any way... did you notice how much danger our local families and firefighters were in on this incident? Thanks for the info and photos Bianca. By the way Isaac, great story on your police ride-a-long experience: http://www.sacramentopress.com/headline/26083/A_Tragic_End_to_a_Former_SacPD_Officer

Ed,
Thanks for your compliments on my story. I was asked to change my user name to my legal name by the staff of Sacpress.com when I began writing stories, not just commenting on them. Perhaps the policy has since changed.

Isaac,

We asked you to use your real name because you had been using an alias. Ed Fogle and Bianca Carson are there legal names. Thanks for keeping an eye out!

ccc- Sorry you're wrong, it is not a matter of cute or smugness. There are distinct differences between Downtown and Midtown and have been for years--not only in this city but many, many cities around the country--try NYC as just one example. Try traveling around the country and you will find those differences are similar in each of those cities and why those areas that border a downtown are called "midtown." Its comments like this that demonstrate a lack of city sophistication and support Sacramento's "cowtown" image.
