SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 3, 2010—The month of May has been declared International Internal Audit Awareness Month by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, thanks in part to the efforts of the Sacramento Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and Golden 1 Director of Internal
Audit Kara Giano.

“This recognition is so important for area Internal Audit professionals who work tirelessly to help organizations meet their objectives by monitoring risks and ensuring controls in place are adequate to mitigate risks,” says Giano, who serves as president of the Sacramento Chapter of the IIA. “We are truly honored by this recognition.”

Established in 1941 and based out of Altamonte Springs, Florida, the IIA is an international professional association that serves as the global voice for the Internal Audit profession. The association focuses on providing education for Internal Auditors and best practices for the profession. In California, there are 11 separate IIA chapters that serve more than 5,600 members, with 484 members belonging to the Sacramento Chapter.

“Through the IIA, Internal Auditors have gained knowledge, shared experiences, learned new tools to make their work more efficient and effective and built an infrastructure that ensures continuous service to the profession,” says former IIA President Dave Richards. “Government and private businesses alike are stronger when a properly staffed, well educated, and organizationally supported internal audit function exists and focuses on the financial, operational, compliance, IT, and fraud related risks facing their organization.”

Note on Press Release:  The press release above was created by Golden 1 on behalf of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Sacramento Chapter.  Visit IIA Sacramento's website www.theiia.org/sacramento or join the IIA Sacramento Chapter LinkedIn Group.

That Kevin Johnson declares an 'international' ANYTHING is the height of his own delusion....

That this 'international audit month' is declared by HIM, of all people, when his own St. Hope couldn't sustain its own rigors of financial and operational audits, including unprecedented staff turnover, cash flow sustainability issues, fraudulent use of federal funds, and mishandling of child sexual abuse allegations made against Johnson himself, misrepresentation of academic achievement statistics to paint a pretty picture for public consumption, cherry picking a declining student body while other schools who meet such goals take ALL students, among MANY MANY other demerits, is the height of hypocrisy in this ridiculously pompous and unfit mayor...

Let's hope this new gig with charterization freak head of Obama's DOE, Arne Duncan, will pan out into a DC assignment to enable a more suitable replacement to spare our city any further embarrassment or harm...

Go bean counters! We couldn't do it without you! I spent about 10 years in accounting jobs, including two positions as a controller. The audit teams did great work and I was always happy to have them come look at our books and processes.

The point is to recognize the professionals who provide a crucial service to business, not to provide a forum for political malcontents. It matters not to me who the politician is who approves the directive. Members of the IIA have earned this recognition.

*Some* are happily content to ignore the utter hypocrisies played out before their very eyes. Others, like me, are not.

This is NOT an expression of 'political malcontention'. It is merely being a good citizen... *Some* might consider learning the difference.
