An arrest has been made in connection with the thirteen burglarized homes in McKinley Park. The Sacramento Police Department arrested 38-year-old Kenneth Johnson on Jan. 10, 2009.

Forensic evidence has linked Johnson to 3 of the 13 burglaries. The remaining 10 burglaries are still under investigation.

The 13 burglaries occurred between July and December of 2008 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. Investigators speculate that Johnson entered the homes through unlocked doors or windows while residents were asleep.

The incident that ultimately led to his arrest happened late one night when a resident was smoking in their backyard around 2:30 a.m. He heard the side gate creak open and saw Johnson walk into his backyard.

The homeowner confronted him and Johnson fled the scene. The resident called the police to report the incident and gave a description of Johnson.

About 45 minutes later, an officer did a routine bike stop because he saw someone riding without a bike light. Johnson fit the description of the backyard suspect and was arrested that night for prowling.

The police department began considering Johnson as a suspect to the chain of burglaries in that area. Johnson was sentenced to work project for prowling.

Suspicions were confirmed with forensic evidence for three of the incidents. While he was reporting for his work project on Jan. 10, 2009, he was arrested.
