The following open letter from Sacramento Chief of Police Rick Braziel was just released by the Sac PD:

"Hello,

"Before you hear it elsewhere, I wanted to share with you a decision I made. Recently, I was approached by an executive search firm and asked to apply for the Seattle Chief of Police position. After considerable thought, I decided that this was an opportunity that I should pursue.

"This has been a very difficult decision for my wife and me. I joined the Sacramento Police Department in 1979 and after 30 years of service, I continue to love and cherish each day here. I firmly believe that this is one of the most professional law enforcement organizations in the country. Any success that I have had is because of you, the incredible men and women of the Sacramento Police Department.

"At this point, I am simply one of many candidates for this position. I am in no way “looking to get out” of my current position. I love this organization and would be very happy to remain as your Chief if I am not selected. The Seattle position is an opportunity that I needed to explore.

"As always, I will keep you updated as the process continues."

The Chief of Police will not be doing interviews on the subject until Thursday.

He's only one of eleven, darn it... I hope he does indeed get the Seattle job, and doesn't let the door hit him in the behind when he leaves...

Someone said that he 'worked his way up' the chain of command at Sac PD. If that means that he kissed a lot of behind to stay with the department, and covered up allegations, and then an inquiry into those allegations by honorable public citizens, of child sexual abuse and sexual harassment by our current mayor, then he indeed 'worked his way up' the organizational ladder.... and he's got the brown nose to prove it...
