It might just be the fight of the year.
World Extreme Cagefighting is taking the giant step into the game of Pay Per View events on April 24 in Sacramento at Arco Arena with help from former champ and local favorite, Urijah Faber.
Faber, a former Division I UC Davis wrestler and a well seasoned MMA fighter (23-3) will have his hands full when he takes on the Brazilian Jujitsu expert and well-matched Jose Aldo, the current WEC featherweight champion in what many say will be the fight of the year.
Adding to the hype surrounding the event, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson declared April 22 “Urijah Faber day” at Thursday's press conference at Arco Arena.
WEC is banking on Faber vs. Aldo being one of the best fights of the year. Urijah is coming off of an exciting win against Assuncao, a Brazilian Jujitsu star, and he is determined to keep Aldo's championship belt in Sacramento after Saturday night.
Urijah’s last fight at Arco Arena in January brought in an estimated 10,000 attendees. WEC is hoping to surpass those numbers Saturday and is estimating 150,000 Pay Per View buys.
Doors will open at 3:00 and tickets start at $40.
