With a little less than six minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Kings down by only a point, it looked as though they were going to hang in there with a good Memphis Grizzlies ball club Monday night. Grizzlies’ guard O.J. Mayo apparently did not see it that way.
With the game 82-81 with the Grizzlies on top and 5:33 to go, Mayo, who was just three of 14 from the field at the time, found his shot. The Grizzlies’ guard scored Memphis’ next 10 points, going four for four from the field and ignited a 20-5 Memphis scoring run that resulted in the 102-85 win over the Kings.
The Kings were without Tyreke Evans for the second straight game. Evans suffered a concussion on March 19 when he caught an accidental elbow against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Carl Landry led the Kings in scoring with 23 points, and Beno Udrih continued his strong play with 18 points and 10 assists. It was the second straight game that Udrih recorded a double-double.
Grizzlies’ forward Zach Randolph had 25 points and 12 rebounds and passed Kings’ assistant coach Shareef Abdur-Rahim for most rebounds in a single season for the Grizzlies’ franchise.
The Kings have lost three of their last four games. Their next game will be against the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday.
