Are you at risk for type 2 diabetes? March 23 is the 22nd Annual American Diabetes Association Alert Day, and pro basketball player Tyreke Evans is challenging you to take the Diabetes Risk Test.
Tyreke is committed to raising awareness about how serious diabetes is when left untreated or undiagnosed. The American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Risk Test is a series of simple questions about weight, age, family history and other potential risks for pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It shows if you’re at low, moderate or high risk for diabetes.
There are many faces of diabetes - it can affect anyone regardless of age, ethnicity or social status. In type 2 diabetes, often symptoms do not appear until it’s too late. Studies have shown that type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by losing just 5-7% of body weight through healthy eating and regular physical activity – that’s only 30 minutes a day, five days a week. For people who have been diagnosed with diabetes, these same lifestyle changes make a huge difference in their diabetes management.
Visit VSP Vision Care's blog to take the test. If you’re at high risk, speak with your health care provider and find ways to make proactive choices about your health.
