Prepare yourselves my pilgrims, the hunt is on, and to the victor go the spoils.  The waiting is over and Beer Week Scavenger Hunt is here at last!   Sacramento Beer Week kicks off on Monday, Feb 22 and for seven days Sacramento will live and breathe beer.  Though numerous are the ways to taste, sample, imbibe, and revel, the Scavenger Hunt is the ultimate cure for what Ales you.

On the surface The Hunt seems simple: journey through Beer Week and collect tokens during your travels, but a deeper meaning lies below.  As the Knights of the Round Table proved worthiness through feats of courage, daring, and ingenuity, so must it be for those who aspire True Brew.   Ponder the clues, seek illumination, walk the steps of the ancient masters.

Where to begin our journey you ask?  First we must seek counsel of Kassandra Sutherland, who created The Hunt to challenge and amaze the beer lovers throughout the area.  Over 100 items hiding in pubs from Davis to Folsom.  So much beer and so little time......

The glamorous Kassandra, a Gypsy from Brumania,  spoke to me about The Hunt she created.  Some items can be easily collected; others are simply a photo of a specific talisman in a particular pub (you will need to turn in your photos on a CD at the end of the hunt).  For others you will need to channel your inner ninja.

Some clues are obvious, others more challenging, such as the mystery blue eyed pig, or the secret of naked lady from The Romford Brewery.  The clues will take you through the history of beer in Sacramento, from the gold rush era saloon in Old Sac known for numerous murders to the latest high-rise nightspots.  So break out your magnifying glass and calabash pipe.  The game is afoot!

Advice for those who aspire to this task?  Kassandra recommends:  Form teams to divide and conquer, start early, work hard, collect your trophies, and above all, "Don't worry, be hoppy'".

Nice article. I'm intrigued by the references to blue-eyed pigs and secretive naked ladies.
