It's once again time to break out your masks and beads. Mardi Gras is here, and Sacramento is full of different events to dance, eat and drink the night away in true Mardi Gras fashion.
The Mix Downtown, at 1531 L St., is throwing a Mardi Gras party Wednesday, Feb. 17. The party will take place on the patio of Mix, above de Vere's Irish Pub. Drink specials include $6 Hurricanes and go from 9-11 p.m. The party doesn't stop until 2 a.m., and Mix is providing free beads.
Old Sacramento is also having a Mardi Gras extravaganza. The Mardi Gras Pub 'n' Grub Crawl will be held throughout the streets of Old Sacramento Saturday, Feb. 20, starting at 4 p.m. The self-guided crawl will feature food and live music at various locations in Old Sacramento. All ages are welcome to the street-style fair complete with beads, dancers, costumes and street entertainment until 10 p.m. A complete list of participating bars can be found on this website.
Calling all history buffs, Old Sacramento will also feature a special history tour of original Prohibition-era locales. Tour guide Mike Munson will explain the history behind Sacramento and some of the city's deep secrets from it's speakeasy history. The tour is 4-6 p.m. Feb. 20. There is a $10 cost, and reservations are required. They can be made by calling 442-8575.

Join the Solomon Wine Company the home of Muse, Garsa, and Cloud 9 wines for our Mardi Gras party in the Clarksburg tasting room. We are paring our Muse Carnivale Sangria, Garsa Syrah and Tempranillo with traditional foods of the New Orleans Mardi Gras festival. There will be Kings Cake, Louisiana Style Pork BBQ, Cole Slaw and Jambalaya. All go famously with our chilled sangria served with orange slices.
This event has no charge, includes great food, wine and music.
Mardi Gras means fat Tuesday, Fat Tuesday is a last chance party excuse before a six-week period of abstinence, and residents of New Orleans, Louisiana, are famous for their Mardi Gras celebrations and parades.
No Mardi Gras celebration is complete without a King Cake, also known as Twelfth Night Cake. This cake is actually a sweetened yeast bread, usually baked in a ring shape. The cake is frosted with gold, green, and purple icing representing in order, power, faith, and justice.
