Could you also mention where this information is from/can be found and when more up-to-date contributions will be visible?

Hi Falina,

Thanks for your questions. Campaign contributions are public information. The city of Sacramento has an online campaign contributions filing system that is open to the public. You can view the campaign contribution statements at the following link: http://nf4.netfile.com/pub2/Default.aspx?aid=SAC

Then, scroll down to the following heading: 06/08/2010 Primary Election. Click the box for "candidates" and you'll find their contributions. The 460 statements provide information on contribution amounts.

I wrote a guide to using the online system in November, but it needs to be updated. Since November, the city has made a few changes to its system. Look for an updated guide on the system in The Sacramento Press later this week.

I will also ask the city clerk's office when new contributions will be made public. I'll get back to you as soon as I get the answer.

Cheers,

Kathleen

Hi Falina,

Assistant City Clerk Stephanie Mizuno e-mailed me a response to your question. The deadline for the next set of campaign contribution statements is March 17. The March 17 statements will list contributions from Jan. 1 to March 12, Mizuno said. The statements will be available at the city's online campaign contributions filing system.

Cheers,

Kathleen

The money power preys upon the nation in time of peace and conspires against it in times of adversity. It is more despotic than monarchy, more insolent than autocracy, more selfish than bureaucracy. I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me, and causes me to tremble for the safety of our country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people, until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the republic is destroyed.

It seems like a lot more than a little bit of a conflict of interest that Steve Cohn should accept money from Sacramento Natural Gas Storage, LLC for his campaign since he both works for SMUD, (who would buy the Natural Gas from the dangerous underground storage facility located under an existing community of poor people,) and is a representative on the Council who has already said he will have to abstain from voting approval for the proposed project. I wonder if SMUD's aware that one of their PUBLIC UTILITY employees is taking money from a Company who's fishing to do business with them. Pretty straight conflict there!

Kudos for summarizing and sharing this important information.

This clearly shows the massive hurdle that anyone faces when trying to unseat an incumbent, even for an office as minor as city council.

The challengers were outspent at least 2:1, and as much as 20:1... with the winning campaigns funded by trades & interests instead of individuals. All the more reason to question council meddling in the affairs of local businesses and individuals.

Thw government which governs best governs least.

You can sure see who is being bought by the Unions and who is being supported by small business and grass roots efforts... Thanks for the info - Great work!
