Conversation on The Sacramento Press about: Mexican artist tapped again for Zócalo expansion

Sacramento restaurateur Ernesto Jimenez was excited, yet afraid to take on the challenge of creating a restaurant in a 6,000-square-foot corner space in the old Arnold Brothers Motor Cars building.

He already was the owner of the colorful Mexican restaurant Ernesto's when he and partners bought the 77-year-old building in 2001. And he'd been dreaming about his next restaurant for years. He wanted it to be something special.

"It was a beautiful old building, so the restaurant had to match the...

Ok here is the latest. I strongly believe that Zocalo's brings great style and authentic mexican cuisine in an artistic and classy way to the midtown Sacramento area. Those who do not care for the prices or the food can stay with the other family owned mexican restaurants that are ok for a quite meal. Zocalo is a place for people to commune and relax in an upbeat midtown way with style and pizazz. Isn't that why you choose midtown to get a way , for a fun ,safe, stylish night out where you can see true Sacramento come alive with all it's beauty and life!

P.S I love the story of Zocalo which is why I left this message what an inspiration of hard work and passion for style and beauty with great taste by the way or I wouldn't be writing this.

There are lots of outlets available in Sacramento to discuss the quality of a particular restaurant's food.

Whatever you think of Jiminez's food or politics, or Sacramento restaurant zoning for that matter, you gotta admit this is a pretty interesting article about a restaraunt owner going the extra mile. He could have bought his decor from Chipotle's supplier, and that corner would be just another faceless stucco box.

You know its pretty bad situation when cogmeyer is calling you all out for being too negative!

the art and decor is nice but the food is sadly only mediocre. The food at 15th & S is much better. We really don't need any more places in Midtown like this - a defacto nightclub immediately adjacent to residences. If Zocalo was not a quasi-nightclub it might be much better.

I've always liked the restaurant concept behind Zócalo; the service is superb. I might agree on the price comment above. Nevertheless, I suggest to be advised by the staff on what to try out and find a favorite. The ambiance is great and if you pick your days well, you might be surrounded by colorful Mariachi music. :o) I say, we need more places like this in our town--regardless of the cultural theme behind the restaurant.
