Does this mean you want me to drop by your offices? Do you have a phone number, or is that too web 1.0?

re contact information. i know you are on "eye" street, however the capital letter "I" can be mistaken for a "one." Please think about clarifying this in your contact info.

Thanks for including me and so far from what I have seen on your site, this is going to be great! I do have one suggextion. I write all of the press releases for the Sacramento Fire Department and you have a "crime" tag. Could you change it to a "public safety" tag, or add another tag where public safety can have their press releases posted? I know that all of my fellow Public Safety PIO's write frequent press releases, and I think your readers would appreciate a page that they could go to , to see all of our press releases. Thanks!

That's the great thing about our site, *you* or *anyone* on our site can tag your press releases as "public safety". I went ahead and tagged your "Sacramento Home Fire Safety" article with the tag "public safety". And now automatically there is a tag section for public safety.

So if you and the other PIOs all simply label your press releases "public safety" they will now show up here: http://sacramentopress.com/tag/publicsafety

Hope that helps!

Geoff... Maverick Photography has been providing a good deal of news content photos, as well, I'm a retired Paramedic/Engineer and understand what Captain Doucette's concern is. As generations go by, buzz words and terms phase in and out. Public Safety has become the more generic term to cover Crime, Fire Safety and Prevention, Gang Awreness and much more. Crime would actually be considered a sub category and/or "tag". I have to echo Capt. Doucette in recomending that you consider changing "Crime" to "Public Safety." Just my two cents. :-)

Will you ever have a fiction or poetry section?

If you tag it as fiction or poetry then that section will automatically be created. In the case of fiction and poetry there already are such sections which can be found here, http://sacramentopress.com/tag/poetry and here, http://sacramentopress.com/tag/fiction.

If we begin to get large numbers of these submissions we will begin to lay them out in the same manner that our front page is laid out. I hope that answers your question. If you have more questions please feel free to email me, geoff@sacramentopress.com.

I wonder if you guys will ever be hiring.

Oh, man, I remember the last time I applied for a job downtown. Was late the the interview...twice...because I couldn't find parking. How embarassing.

It is likely we will hire more people in the coming year, however they may not be writers, as we currently employee no one as a full time writer or reporter. However in about 2-3 months we will be searching for our next round of interns and you are certainly welcome to apply for that position.

No, embarrassing is when you go for your interview, but the car won't start because you left your lights on, then you try to start it by rolling down the hill which fails, then you have to push the car to the side of the road and in doing so, run over your own foot..... and then arriving ten minutes late (I did not get offered the job).

I happened to stumble upon your website in a search for the 'STOP THE POWER GRAB' domain, and I'm really glad i did11!! Thank you for covering the stories online that need to be covered, and to give full prominence to the STPG efforts!!! Many Sacramentans, including myself, are VERY grateful (since the Bee has virtually banned coverage of this effort)....

I began writing my front page story tonight, after joining and setting up my account for the first time. It was lengthy, so I chose to 'save as draft' but now find it is gone! If a draft exceeds the 20,000 characters, does it just wipe out the whole thing? I wish I had saved it somewhere else. Perhaps you can help me: the title was 'Grandparent Alientation Syndrome?' - Dr. Burrill is back in the House
I can't find it anywhere in my profile. Perhaps you can help. PLEASE!

A few Q's -

Are you guys offering internships again? I've been looking and can't find anything, and your "help" section is a bit...odd.

Also wondering if you guys would be interested in working with local college newspapers. You currently have very, very little material and perhaps working something out with local newspapers like CRC or Sac State would help both newspapers and the community. ;)

(Kind of off-topic but clicked on the page for jobs with the SacBee out of curiosity and the page won't load. How telling!)

I just spent some "quality time" on the site. I'm really pleased with the overall quality. Seems like you might consider adding "Education" or "Schools" as a content tab. Many people really care about things related to schools - comparative quality, achievements, interesting students - and the shrunken state of the Bee has created a gap. Maybe an opportunity for differentiation of sacramentopress.com?

I see that a new salon did a 'news' story which is nothing more than an advert.. so how much does Sac Press charge for these adverts?

Why no stories on last night's City Council meeting where the mayor failed to recuse himself from a vote for the city to fund legal remedies for his 'strong mayor' initiative!!! Your little blurb seems just a puff rag for this empty suit mayor and his backers as they pillage our town clean....VERY BAD FORM!

I have a couple of content suggestions.

1) A good juicy horoscope section, a la 'Minerva' in the SF Chronicle, or Rob Brezhny (sp?) in the SNR, but with an original bent;

2) A good juicy crossword puzzle... As a crossword puzzle addict, I've searched HIGH and LOW for good juicy puzzles, and TRUST ME - - they're RARE across the various newspapers across America... The gold standard is the NYTimes, which is progressively more difficult with each passing day of the week and deliciously esoteric -- but they charge for all but one dated puzzle per week... Another masterful puzzle is by Merl Reagle, published in the LATimes and SFChron, etc., who also pairs with Sylvia Burstein of the LATimes, to make some very interesting puzzles... There are a couple of others, such as the Chicago Sun-Times and NOLA.COM's 'Premier' puzzles, but none of these 'others' are as challenging as the NYTimes... It would be interesting to see if a local could produce something on a par with the Times, either Times, and I guarantee you, if you produce something tough and original and time consuming, you'll have crossword puzzlers and addicts moving heaven and earth to seek your online offerings and ad impression count...

Food for thought....

I just posted my first article. Can I get notified in email when anyone posts a comment? Also, do you provide a click statistics? Like, how many people click on the headline and then continue and click on the storyline? I also wasn't sure how to embed a picture in the article - it asked for a URL and wasn't sure if that meant I needed to have the file hosted elsewhere. Can you help?

And this forum is a little confusing - I can't always tell which answers go to which questions because you don't address the name of the person you're responding to. Would be nice if there was more organized help (a la FAQ) for authors... And a "Preview" button before submitting to post - even Blogger has that.

Heather: It appears to me the forum, or "Conversation" as they title it, here on the "Contact Us" page might not be getting moderated lately... so maybe a message to the "support" page might get some attention. I'd like to know the responses to the issues you've raised, as well, so thanks for asking them.

How does one give a story suggestion to a reporter? I've met a couple of them and would like to suggest an event coming in about 10 weeks. Do I send it to the managing editor or the reporter, and how? Great work!

HI Roger, thanks for asking. You can email our Managing Editor, Colleen Belcher, at colleen@sacramentopress.com or you can call our office directly at 916-443-5403.

Even better, you can write about the story yourself since our staff and editorial interns are pretty busy with their story assignments and specific beats they cover. For more details about how to do this, email me at casey@sacramentopress.com.

When I lived at 19th and V Street, I rescued a little bitty foot-tall sapling, which was just about to get pulled up in the name of progress, and put her in a pot. Now, four years later, she is 8 feet tall and according to a tree site picture, she is probably an American Elm. She is a beauty, but is planted in my flower bed, four feet from the apartment, where she has coffee daily with some geraniums!!! She may grow to be about 100 feet tall, if she is lucky! She was called by the pioneers, the "lady of the forest" which is a wonderful name. She needs a new home somewhere, and really prefeers Mid-town, where all her relatives live. Do any of you know where she could be transplanted?
