In response to the recent 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Haiti, the United States has reacted quickly to raise funds and send assistance. There are organizations across the country providing assistance and Sacramentans are also responding quickly to the devastated country's call for help.

On Friday, Jan. 15 Sutter Health Systems announced that it will be donating $1.25 million to Haiti relief. The majority ($1 million) of the donation will go towards Doctors Without Borders and the rest will be ...

Casey - I thought I would share another resource that I think is crucial. Sometimes, we tend to forget after soem time has passed, just how much HELP is still needed. To that end, I, a local Sacramento man, have launched a global movement from Facebook to help Haiti.

The premise is that we DO forget, and this is a tragedy that can ONLY get worse if we do, so we must take time to REMEMBER Haiti in the month of March - the March For Haiti movement seeks 20 thousand pledges of action in March to remember and help Haiti victims.

Started right here in Sacramento, and reaching out globally, with members already on board from Brazil, Ecuador, Africa, Canada and across America.

I don't think this link will work, unless you edit and add it above....but I will post it anyhow, for your readers to use.

http://marchforhaiti.org - or directly to the Facebook Cause at http://apps.facebook.com/causes/438728

Hopefully, JOIN so that we can, as a global community, Remember and Help the victims in March...two months AFTER the disaster.

One more quick update:
Last night 200 plus downtown denizens, legislators, lobbyists and Capitol staff jammed into Celestin’s to raise money for the Haiti earthquake victims.

“Californians are no strangers to earthquakes. We know the dangers and the tragedies that are associated with earthquakes. We know it takes money and resources to help people recover”, said Dan Jacobson of Environment California. Dan Jacobson and Elizabeth Gavric of Capitol Network and the California Association of REALTORS arranged the event which raised over $5000 for the Red Cross and several other relief organizations.

John of Tragically White Band is helping organize a benefit show for Haiti relief with donations going to Red Cross. The show is being held at the Folsom Hotel Saloon Sunday Jan. 31st and will feature local bands and musicians
