The judge considering a lawsuit in Sacramento County Superior Court over the “strong mayor” initiative has released an initial ruling saying that the initiative should not be placed on the June 2010 ballot. This is not the judge’s final decision on the case.

The strong mayor initiative would give Mayor Kevin Johnson many new powers.

Judge Loren McMaster noted that he analyzed the argument that the public has a right to participate in initiatives.

“The Court recognizes the right of the people to vote on initiative measures,” the judge wrote. “The Court does not lightly dismiss such, and has taken this very important right in consideration in ruling on the matter.”

But the judge wrote that many state Supreme Court rulings have found that revisions to the California Constitution should not be made through an initiative.

“The same legal principle should be applied to revisions to City charters,” the tentative ruling said.

Read the judge’s tentative ruling on the case here.

The case is titled Bill Camp vs. the city of Sacramento, and the text of the ruling is on Item 11 of the document.

In this and like communities, public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail; without it nothing can succeed.

Gosh, Info Wars, maybe his prayer went beyond SMP, maybe his prayers were against deceit.....or what could come from a mayor voted into office that it appears we opened the door to an evil and greater ones- continuous trickery and deceit have come through it... Whatever his prayers who are you to make light or fun of his prayers? for goodness sakes...

Poorly and disrespectfully stated, sir. That I am not a member of any Christian Church, is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or any denomination of Christians in particular.

While I'm grateful to those who initiated this lawsuit, 'Mr. Camp' also helped bring KJ's political career into being last year, and HE OWES US!

Sounds like InfoWars is one of KJ's suckups, this time wearing a different disguise...yet again... Let's see if the garbledygook parlance reveals who this individual really is.... Steve...

Mr. Johnson's ambitions, which are not within reasonable bounds, does the commonweal harm rather than good. I pray that he shows himself to be an honest servant of the public through actions and not ambitions, but thus far the latter overshadows the former, much like the mighty tree which smothers the saplings in the shade of its branches.

Our fair city has gone through many changes in the last decade! Look around. This was all done with our current form of city government.

Steven, excellent point. You are right. Yes, we have to crawl before we can walk, walk before we can run... It seems some expect quick fixes- expect to fly into "a world class city" overnight due to a SMP. Heck, Sac has made many changes and in fact past leaderships and the current form of government has made it possible for Johnson to get to his "world class city" destination sooner. It takes time and no SMP is going to be the magic bullet...Anyway, excellent point it made me stop and think of the town we use to be, he city we are....and where we can continue to go. Just because their is no SMP doesn't mean all is lost... Also. careful what we wish for, it was safer when we were just a town, people seemed to love their neighbor, know their neighbor, kids weren't divided into gangs they played together...families looked out for one another's children, officers knew residents, residents knew officers.....Johnson always talks about Phoenix but he sure as heck leaves out the huge gang problem in Phoenix. Seems he should address crime/ gangs since violence is like a cancer and spreads, before his world class development vision....
