Conversation on The Sacramento Press about: 'Boom' Opens with a Bang!

When answering a personal ad promising ‘a night that will change the course of mankind’, expect a few disappointments. When Jo and Jules hook up in B Street Theatre’s current production of ‘Boom’, written by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, their disappointment in each other is the highlight of their evening. Jo, played with an angry intensity by Sarah Aili, wants the human connection she’s never had…or, rather, she wants to have had a human connection; best get it over with! Jules, played by Peter Story...

Hi Jacquie. It's almost two years later and I just got around to re-reading this and saw your comment. Believe me, I have no illusions as to where my talents lie. I would LOVE to hear your criticisms if you're still interested. I don't write much but when I do I'd like to make it as polished as possible. This was a case where I loved the ideas in show so much that I just had to get it down on 'paper' and out there as soon as possible. Here's another review I wrote that I THINK is a little cleaner: http://www.sacramentopress.com/headline/22444/The_Lies_Begin_when_we_lift_the_Pen

Any input you'd like to give would be welcome.

David, you wrote an excellent review; I was quite impressed. In fact, I was much in agreement with most everything you had to say. While watching the play, I missed what you picked up regarding the sole fish in the tank. Good for you! It's clear to me that you have done this professionally before. However, there's one problem: I have been a professional writer/editor for over 35 years and, as you might expect, I am much more critical than the average person when it comes to the written (and spoken) word. (I drive my friends crazy because no matter where we go, I manage to find mistakes--in menus, programs, EVERYWHERE.) However, there were quite a few errors in your article. I am not telling you this to rain on your parade. Rather, I am bringing this to your attention if, perhaps, you would like me to specifically let you know what they are. The punctuation errors are profound, and one basic one, unfortunately, is repeated many times. As far as spelling errors, I can only guess that Spellchek was not used. If you have any interest in talking to me, I would be delighted to help. Please write to me at jacquie.harris@att.net, and then we can exchange phone numbers. If not, well, I don't know what to say. . . .Your writing, however, is topnotch.

David, thanks for writing the review! Those reading may not know that you are a longtime theatre professional in Sacramento, designing sets for River Stage, The Show Below, the Lambda Players and, yes, B Street Theatre! It's been too long since you contributed. Welcome back.
