Mayor Kevin Johnson said last week he is considering the possibility of starting a “green initiative” in 2010.

While Johnson’s environmental initiative is still in a brainstorming stage, he mentioned that it is one of his priorities for the coming year.

He indicated that “green jobs” might be part of the possible environmental initiative.

“We’ve got to find ways to diversify, and I think that’s where the green initiative can also play a role,” he said.

So, what does "green jobs" mean? Any details on what makes a job "green" or not?

Mayor Kevin Johnson's environmental initiative is still being planned. I will continue to report on Johnson's plans for an environmental program.

So, in other words, he's thinking about it, but doesn't have any plans yet...but he held a press conference to announce things he's planning on thinking about this year?

And yeah, considering that his environmental track record so far consists of cheerleading a water-bottling plant and re-starting suburb construction on the Natomas floodplain, I'm definitely curious as to what the mayor thinks is "green."

Precisely! Given the Nestle giveaway, it seems his interpretation of 'green' is limited to the amount of money he can garner for his campaign coffers, including that SMI thingy that will hopefully wither and die before June...

William, what's most instructive is the precise way he is vague, the eloquent phrasing saying absolutely nothing ... as usual.

"“We’ve got to find ways to diversify, and I think that’s where the green initiative can also play a role,” he said."

Um, okay.

Diversify = Build in North Natomas - Build in South Sacramento - Build in East Sacramento - Build on irreplaceable farmland - build stucco strip malls - pollute the groundwater and allow it to run unfiltered into the Sacramento River...

Call it all Green

Now re-elect me

The problem with the above is... that this ACTUALLY works on the MORONIC voters in the City... when one of the idiots in City Hall add "green" to whatever screwed up project they are devising....the sheeple yell hurray! Ray Tretheway is a perfect example of someone wrapping themselves in a green cloak and devising many ways to screw the environment behind closed doors.

Well, not quite "now re-elect me" so much as "now support the Strong Mayor Initiative."

i.e. "I got elected with zero experience while I was under multiple criminal investigations, while I was occupying the community high school that the taxpayers paid for, now change your City Constitution to give me unprecedented power!!"

Let's call this what it is: Greenwashing. First the mayor needs to stop trying to promote suburban sprawl and that idiotic arena, then he can start acting like he cares about the environment.

Time to slip into your grungy Birkenstocks and peddle your urban mountain bikes to get some local, organic wheat juice while the city goes to hell in a handbasket. Aaaaah, so refreshing (and GREEN too).

That's what Sacramento gets for voting in a dumb jock.

Kevin Johnson may be many things, but he is not dumb. The fact that you said this, throwing in the term "jock" means that you are probably a Very Smart Person.

He is very intelligent - However intelligence does not always equate to high morals, strong ethics or good judgement.

Having shared a classroom with Mr. Johnson, I can say that he isn't necessarily book-smart or articulate. He does have some intelligence, yes, because he's good at manipulating people. That takes some smarts. He surrounds himself with very smart people who tell him what to say so he can pass himself off as intelligent. When people start to realize that he isn't that smart, he begins the bullying tactic. It's all about the image, baby. It's all about the image.

Intelligence used deceptively is more properly termed connivance -- not 'smarts'... Every time I hear him speak or consider one of his misguided proposals, nearly always with the stench of corruption, I inevitably feel smarmed, or better yet, slimed...

He's as disgusting a local official as has ever pretended to serve, and I hope this town sees the error of its ways and corrects the local effects of the 2008 election...

When confronted with the truth, he cries foul, or racist, or some other ad hom epithet seeking to sidestep presenting issues, such as numerous allegations of child sexual abuse and ensuing investigations, as well as his tangible history of fiscal malfeasance...

THIS is what constitutes 'leadership' in Sacto??? NO THANK YOU!
