Heat Wave!

Turn off those heaters and bust out the tank tops. Sacramento is experiencing well above average temperatures this week after a long stretch of cold and fog. Yesterday, Jan. 12, 2009, Sacramento recorded a high temperature of 73° F. That crushed the previous high for the same date of 67° F set way back in 1980 (weather.com).

This heat wave raises the question of that dreaded term, Global Warming (or Climate Change, or Green House Effect).

Other questions arise as well: Are we really going to lose San Francisco to the rising ocean levels? Will Sacramento melt in extreme heat this summer? I dare not mention the sad fate of the beloved polar bear. Everyone has their own opinion on the topic, and I am sure many of us have differing views.

Let me know how you all feel. I know I am enjoying this unusually warm winter week, but I ask myself, "Should I feel guilty?"

What I want to know is, will I get to ski this year?

Yeah, quite apart from the terrible, civilization-destroying consequences of global warming, I really just don't like hot weather. I sweat. It seems like my entire life (spent in Sacramento) summers have been getting longer and winters shorter, and I don't like it.

I am enjoying the warm weather but remembering the video I once saw of a polar bear struggling to get food because of what they believed to be effects of global warming makes me feel a little guilty.

I think we are all loving the warm weather right now, with the exception of the skiers and snowboarders out there. But it is really going to suck come this summer when its hotter than hell and we have no water to enjoy. So will I love the current warmth I sure hope we get some wet stuff soon!

I would settle for snowpack so that there is water to drink in the summer.

I love the warmer than normal temps but, I know we need the rain... In the summer I'll be mad when the rivers and lakes are too low for water activities!

...meanwhile, the rest of the country is in a vicious freeze. It's a little premature to be feeling guilty about SF sinking into the sea.
