A Veterans' Day ceremony was held at the California Mexican-American Veterans’ Memorial, directly across the street of the west steps of the Capitol. The statue was located at the Mexican Cultural Center which was located by South Side Park until mid-1970 when it was relocated to its present site. No improvements have been made to the statue since it was moved to its present location. A beautified and enhanced memorial, currently under design, will encompass the military service of Mexican Americans and Latino soldiers who have served from California starting with the admission of California as a state. The memorial will incorporate the contributions that women have had in the military since the statue was first constructed.
