Rocket’s Runner of the WeekRocket, this beautiful German Shepherd, is the unofficial mascot of The Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. He plays a key role at the organization. He makes people happy. Almost two years ago, Rocket was diagnosed with Osteocarcoma, a rare form of terminal cancer. In order to keep the disease from spreading, Rocket had one of his legs amputated. Since Rocket’s operation, he has been coming to work with his Mom, Kelly Siefkin, The Sacramento Food Bank and Family Service’s Communication andDevelopment Director. Initially Kelly brought Rocket to work with her because she was concerned about him being home alone, now she brings him because it is important to both Rocket and the amazing volunteers and community at the SFBFS. Rocket has decided to try his paw at journalism. Every week, Rocket will interview a new Run to Feed the Hungry Runner. We will ask sixdifferent runners the same questions. We have found that people are motivated by many different reasons to be involved in this incredible event. There is still time to sign up for The Run to Feed The Hungry. To participate, please go to www.theruntofeedthehungry.com for more information and ways to register! Please support this cause!

1. Name: Monica Fugit

2. Occupation: Mom/RN

3. How many years have you been doing the run? I’ve been doing the run for four years, ever since we moved to Sacramento.

4. How many people do you do the run with? Four- my husband, two kids and my sister who comes up from San Diego.

5. Do you run or walk outside the event?  Yes, I did my first half-marathon in May.  Having an organized event as a goal motivates me to exercise regularly.  This year I am doing the 10k with my sister.

6. What motivates you to be part of this cause?  First, I have the ability to help others less fortunate than myself.  Second, I am teaching my kids to give back to the community.

7. What is your favorite thing about The Run to Feed the Hungry?  I like the fact it has become a tradition for families to participate year after year.  We see friends and neighbors that we may not see frequently throughout the year.

8. Do you have a favorite T-shirt design from over the years?  No, but I like white shirts, Blake.

9. If you could make one wish this year on Thanksgiving, what would it be?  I would wish that no child has to go to bed hungry tonight.

10. What are you most thankful for this year?  I am most thankful that my kids are healthy.
