Charter Schools is by choice and having said that, CHAED only caters to those desiring to attend. CHAED will be sensitive to the issues of Sacramento High School's surrounding neighborhoods and will aid to those parents whom feel a need for an alternative. Therefore, CHAED is designed to give parents an alternative that will enrich and provide their sons and daughters an opportunity in life. I am sensitive to the needs of a traditional high school and CHAED will represent a hybrid for both traditional and innovative curriculum.

Ms. Millin, I recognize your viewpoint and your opinion. I appreciate your comment. Your comments only strengthens my further knowledge on the sensitivity and direction I need to take. When all is said and done the one thing that matters to me is that students will leave CHAED per OUTCOMES AND GOALS and the community is well served because of CHAED.

While i agree we need traditional high schools too downtown, this is in my view a catalyst to make that happen. If / when SCUSD sees it works here maybe they will come back and not abandon us as they have now. Please come to Midtown or Downtown. There are several sites that might work well like the Washington School at 17th & N.

"CHAED's goal is to provide a traditional high school setting while adding an innovative curriculum. If you go back and read the CURRICULUM FOCUS it answers your concerns of having a strong selection of elective classes."

You are completely blowing off the concerns (which you know about from reading SacPress) of the community in the neighborhoods you targeted, and their unmet needs/rights for a traditional, public high school; one they are paying for with their taxes and one they are owed by the SCUSD under order of the court, to replace the defunct and hijacked Sacramento High School.

Your efforts may be well meaning, but please don't begin by fudging the language -- as so many do regarding charter schools -- and denigrating the very real concerns of the historic, central city, traditional, comprehensive, public high school student body.

Sounds interesting. Would historic preservation and restoration of historic houses be a potential part of the curriculum? Fixing up old buildings is the "greenest" way to revitalize cities, and has more positive economic benefits. By operating in the central city and serving the neighborhoods mentioned, there is no shortage of historic material to work with, in addition to opportunities for infill and new construction.

If you go back and read the CURRICULUM FOCUS it answers your concerns of having a strong selection of elective classes. I believe this school will give kids the opportunity to know what they want to do and at best a direction for what they want to do. This school is not only for students and educators but for the community it serves. The facility act as a community hub for evening and weekend events and functions as an example. Its more than just a traditional school...Thanks for your comment, I appreciate your opinion.

I applaud your efforts, however, the neighborhoods you mention are desperate for a regular, traditional high school as theirs was closed. One that offers electives, and sports, and a myriad of choices. High school is about discovering your strengths, your interests, your goals. So many kids don't know what they want to do. The SCUSD has already created many of these small specialty schools and kids just aren't choosing them. I bet if you started a charter as a regular, traditional high school, that had things like home ec, autoshop, woodshop, graphic arts, etc. people in the former Sac High attendance area would be knocking down your doors. There's no such thing as a traditional hs in the SCUSD. Perhaps that's why SCUSD high schoolers are fleeing the district to San Juan high schools which are much more traditional. I wish you luck and perhaps your school will do better attracting students than SCUSD's engineering and science school.
